I love how this show continues to shyt on the bullshyt they try to promote as news on a daily basis. The Casey Anthony scenario was described perfectly on the show, it's pure fukkery and shyt like that takes up time on the news when we could be hearing about things that affect each and every one of us. Don't get me wrong, that bytch deserves the needle for killing that little girl, but it should never be a priority of real issues concerning this country.

Kudos to the writers and HBO for having the balls to tackle the news like this.

dead @ the NSA guy throwing in the dark knight reference. Sorkin strikes again. LOL.

now, can I have Olivia Munn for a weekend?

it's more of a critique on the viewers than anything, and a rationalization as to why some of the guys who sensationalize news (the limbaughs, geraldos, etc.) do what they do.

they spent an entire year crafting news stories that the nation SHOULD be aware of and take interest in. and lost more than half their viewers when they wouldnt show the crazy baby murderer.

they try to justify the team caving because will's job is in danger from a slander campaign. but what employee wouldnt be in danger of losing their job? what person in their right mind WOULDNT have switched up and covered casey? fukk what the "real" issues are, i like my job!

in fact... are the "real" issues really issues if no one cares about them? that's the actual question, and it's what will has been wrestling with all season. it's not as black and white as exposing sellouts or red-flagging "the bullshyt they try to promote on a daily basis.".

that was the whole point of bringing will's old producer back into the fold. to show that there's a proven method for catering to what the audience will respond to, vs. trying to give them what u think they need to hear. one strategy nets ratings. the other appeals to moralistic integrity and, unfortunately, unemployment.

shame on us as viewers for being so easily led to slaughter.

Another good episode, I feel like the next two episodes are gonna end the season on a good note. As for the details in the episode, you gotta love Olivia Munn character as a strong woman, especially since Maggie and Mac are too damn sensitive most of the time.

I have no idea where they are going with adding the ex-boyfriend of Mac's it really felt like just put him to take a shot at print reporters. With that said, at least they took a shot at Nancy Grace's coverage too. My only question is why the hell is Don still helping News Night when he left the show a whole year ago?

Is that the question? Or is it: how can people know what the "real" issues are unless the media is really reporting them?

(a la Sloan and the debt ceiling this week or Will's position being that people should know what they're screaming about or Leona's reason for buying a news station, etc)

I think it's quite cyclical (chicken or the egg?)...

Thats why I cant really be upset with the Nancy Graces and Glenn Becks in the world. They're giving their audience what they want to see. Benjamin Franklin did it and he's credited as one of the greatest Journalists ever:pachaha: Most people watch the news to enforce there own world views.

it's definitely chicken or egg. and it's DEFINITELY cyclical.

right now, i would argue it's the former. failure to report the news only becomes a problem when its a story people want to hear. a la casey anthony.

on the flip... sloan's story is infinitely more important. but until it can be delivered in a manner that's relevant to the average consumer, will they care enough about the implications?

Not the best episode....pretty average, but I'm interested in Part 2 for sure.

Also, that scene with Patel and Munn about him "trolling" her was fukking BRUTAL...worst moment in the show thus far. Poorly conceived and maybe even more poorly executed.

And given Sorkin's previous lame attempts at dealing with the "tech" angle...I'm not looking forward to how he handles this "Anon/4-chan" arc....expecting the worst.

Maggie's 'You can still see me?' line was hilarious.

I'm almost positive that this is another Sorkinism...just can't remember exactly where from. I want to say Studio 60....

...but yeah, it was still great :lolbron:

This is a good episode of PBS Frontline, if anyone wants to catch up on that News of the World scandal before they go in on Reese in the next episode.

Murdoch’s Scandal | FRONTLINE | PBS

...also, there are times when i enjoy this show a lot, but other times when it's re-doing actual news stories and events in such a way that they're being selective about facts, expressing things in such a way that's geared more towards opinions that accuracy.

I do want to keep an ear pricked to hear if any of these media folks (Nancy Grace, for example) make any mention of these episodes, ESPECIALLY 'ole boy Rush Limbaugh, lol.

I'll be surprised if they don't mention this in the next episode but...

"Anthony initially paid for her defense with $200,000 she received from ABC News for her family photos and videos, and money from private donors..."

lol, that shyt was a circus for so many reasons.

I liked this episode a lot. I didn't find any of the characters as annoying either.
