I think that some parts of this NaS album are nicer than a lot of his newer albums, but it's still pretty meh. Fantano may be a hipster, but I think he's kind of on point. I agree with what he said about "The Don": cool beat, but pretty meh. Nasty is fun, but the subject matter is kind of whatever as well. I disagree with his take on "Loco-motive" though, I really liked the beat and Nas' flow. Also with Daughters- good idea but there seemed to be something missing. Queens story has a legit beat though, I dunno why he is hating. You wouldn't understand has a horrible hook and the beat is boring. World's an addiction also has a kind of boring beat and lame hook. I could mention each track but it's whatever... everyone has their own opinions. I like how he re used that beat on reach out but the subject matter on this whole album is lacking something. I guess he's just too commercial now? I miss Illmatic nas but I know it's never coming back. I would take stillmatic nas and that is not here.
I think people are maybe feeling it because it is nicer than a lot of the garbage out now... but in the grand scheme of hip hop it has a few decent tracks but nothing too special. I also don't understand why the fukk Rick Ross is on this record. I tried to like this album but I think I will give it a 5 in the grand scheme of things... comparing it to mainstream hip hop now I would give it like a 7. Best tracks in no particular order: No Introduction, Queens Story, Loco-motive, Stay, Trust, and Cherry Wine although it is a little corny.
much better beats than he usually has but its just kinda whatever... I'd rather just bump some older shyt.
