Moors weren't black tho, they were Berbers who were ruled by Arabs. All the leaders were Arabs.

They were a mix. Berbers, Arabs, and Africans. Basically anyone who wasn't Europeans and had melanin. The University of Timbuktu was very much African and contributed to the scientific advancements of its day (ie. Golden Age of Islam).

Highly recommend the book -
Black Spark, White Fire: Did African Explorers Civilize Ancient Europe?

Love threads like this, our history should definitely be spread around. :banderas:
what's up with the reviews? They all seem unrelated to this book and are talking about a different book.

Right now, nowhere
If you have on demand you can watch Martin's Black Knight on Fuse.

Catch all of the references to the Moors and black Royals while educating and introducing new culture.
I remember them calling him a Moor like 3 or 4 times in this damn movie.
Martin never asked them what it means tho he just said he gettin tired of hearing it
the movie never explained it:mjpls:

Yelp they also said something about booty and Martin thought they were talking about the black girl but really it was about the money and treasures Moors would pirate at sea :myman:

Haven't been through the whole thread (will do) but serious Euro historians usually def acknowledge the fact that A LOT of science and whatnot came from Arabs/Muslims. But when people here talk about the "Dark Ages" it's also often a direct critique of the power the Church held over Europe, especially the Catholic Inquisition which was basically a reign of terror under the guise of religion. Ironically what Christians now accuse (some) Muslims of doing in certains countries

Another thing I think should be more studied is the fact that the so-called Enlightenment really blew up when vast amounts of money came into Europe as slavery was developping. People talk about Italy, but the Enlightnment was happening in France, Belhium, Netherlands, etc...as well, all countries greatly benefiting from slavery. There's no way, in my opinion, that those two things are unrelated : I think that that vast money coming in freed some people from manual work, allowed kings and princes to invest much more in art (thus creating a bigger market for artists, thus creating more artists) as well as money trickling down to intellectuals, writers, etc. Lest we forget that, indeed, slaves in both Greece and Arabia freed citizens to pursue intellectual and artistic work. It was not despite slavery, but thanks to it. But I've never yet read anything talking about this, so maybe I'm wrong :hubie:

"A number of achievements that advanced Islamic and Western science came from al-Andalus including major advances in trigonometry (Geber), astronomy (Arzachel), surgery (Abulcasis), pharmacology (Avenzoar), and other fields. Al-Andalus became a major educational center for Europe and the lands around the Mediterranean Sea as well as a conduit for culture and science between the Islamic and Christian worlds."

^straight from wikipedia,OP

Other achievements of the Moors was double entry bookkeeping, which we now call "Accounting" and modern banking practices, which gave rise to letters of credit and international business practices.

That doesn't make sense
