Of course the ATL
I understand the 2013 contract bc he has been successful since entering the league, we were one play away from the SB in 2012 and he was trending upwards but breh why another max deal after losing the Super Bowl in embarrassing fashion? We shouldn’t have let him go obviously coming off a MVP season but we shouldn’t have broke the bank for years to come. If Tom Brady and Drew Brees can take paycuts why couldn’t we ask Ryan?

Breh so was the alternative to let him walk? I don’t agree with him being the highest paid at his position either but that’s on his agent and the Falcons for agreeing to that contract. But just letting him walk? For a team that had just made the Super Bowl and won a playoff game in 2018? That wasn’t gonna happen breh and it shouldn’t have either. Of all the issues on this team, Matt Ryan is not even close to the biggest issue

We couldn’t have really justified just letting him walk for nothing but we could’ve tried to negotiate and let him test FA to get his price or years down. Carolina let Cam go and he basically has done the same thing Ryan has done but with their team. Cam is a bum though but that’s for another conversation. I’m just saying breh this contract has killed the team along with DQ and TD. Ryan is not the problem as a player but DQ/TDs inability to evaluate talent and our inability to sign FAs bc of these contracts is our issue.

Now this year, if we stink it up again like we did last year, we shouldn’t “finish strong” and we should consider looking at Lawrence bc he’s a generational talent. Ryan is not our future. Lawrence would be. If Rodgers can be forced to play with his replacement, Ryan can too but that’s only if we are trash and can actually get Lawrence

Breh this isn’t the NBA. Teams don’t let players test free agency, that’s a move you’d pull with a restricted free agent. The NFL has no such device so with a franchise tag either the players signs the tag, gets a long term deal or leaves. The scenario of letting Ryan go find a market would’ve resulted in him leaving. Then what? Teams who like their QBs aren’t playing games like that.

Blank wouldn’t fire DQ midseason unless it’s completely unsalvageable. And those players and coaches wouldn’t be trying to lose out because fans want a certain player. All those guys would be fighting for a roster spot/their jobs. Y’all gotta realize that Matt Ryan is the QB until 2023. Nothing is going to change unless he falls off a cliff performance wise

This team is trash. I can't wait till Fields, Lawrence, or Newman is available.
I know u dont like matt but we not trash enough to pick top 5 next year. Still gotta build a good overall team for when we do eventually draft a new qb.

Breh I’ve been watching the NFL for 20 years. I know it doesn’t work like that; i was saying let him walk and go through free agency and see what the market is for him instead of immediately breaking the bank or see if you can franchise and wait to see if you can work at a more team friendlier deal.

I’ve played football for at least a decade and a half. I know it sucks to be trash and lose. They could’ve shut the starters down and let the young guys and players on the bubble get experience instead of wasting time.

My problem is not Matt Ryan. My problem is we’ve been handicapped by his contract and we have no successor. If we’re trash enough this season like when we were 1-7, why not go for Lawrence.

Because he's not worth tanking a whole season for :hhh:

Dude is nice but I'm not taking him over Burrow or (healthy)Tua this year and maybe not over Fields or Newman next year. I'm not tanking my franchise for a spiral-throwing Tebow

Wouldn’t say Matt’s deal has hampered the team, they had two very good shots at getting to and/or winning the SB, and unless you’re Peyton Manning’s team or the Patriots for the last 20 years that’s about the best you can hope for.

With that being said, another year like this past year I’d be down for a QB at the right spot

All I’m just saying in the event we start 1-7 again. I don’t think it’s wise to try to salvage the season. We could’ve had a haul this draft.

I agree with that in theory, but at least we know we have heart. It's not worth Chase Young, but the growth of the defense down the stretch and Matt figuring things out offensively will pay off going into next season. Plus, based on the positions we drafted, I actually like most of our picks over the guys who play the same position who went before them. I'd take Terrell over Henderson and Davidson over Blacklock for our defense. If that's how they were looking to draft(Dimitroff is almost always need-driven) then I don't think we actually missed out on much :manny:

But even with saying that the Falcons are trying to get a deal done that works for them, Matt and his reps are trying to get a deal done that works for them. I don’t see the point of drawing out contract negotiations...both sides are already working in their best interests anyway. Plus Matt has always been willing to restructure his deals on the back end to help the team. He’s done that numerous times.

This teams biggest issues are coaching & player personnel, not Matt Ryan’s contract

Every year i check the falcons message board after the draft and you have a few ppl that dont like the draft and everyone treats them like a leper or a idiot. What about this franchise inspires so much arrogance and blind confidence in this team? Most of our number one picks aint even here anymore. TD has a awful record drafting in the first 3 rounds. He only hit on Matt and Julio and Deebo. Thats in 12 years!
