You know I finally get what you are saying. There is no value in a resource if you lack the ability to process it and sell it in the open market. The parallel I draw is the movie There Will be Blood. Even though the townspeople lived under vast oil deposits, what value is it if they lack the ability to extract and sell said resource? You become dependent on an outside source to extract it for you and once they are in, they will take advantage of you.
Venezuela, Nigeria, etc.
Conflicts/unrest always comes with it... That's why vast oil findings are seen as a curse today.

Not only vast oil resources, but vast mineral resources as well. You have no choice but to become dependent on outsiders that have the ability to extract and sell those resources.

I could be wrong but the only way I could see this working is by having a fascist structure, where the government becomes the business that extracts and sells the resources on the open market, and the citizens become the employees.

the south african government is corrupt as fuk, the only thing that would do is put money into the hands of the bureaucrats in government, if you want to see what happens when the government takes control of resources look at Venezuela

Well Venezuela operates under a socialist structure, which does not properly train it's citizens. The cycle of dependency does little to advance a nation. Maybe to focus should be more on micro financing industry and entrepreneurs, which in turn would lead to more job opportunities.

Thats why when I see them praising Félix Houphouët-Boigny im like get the fukk outta here. That dude sold his country to Charles De gaulle
All Sub-Saharan African leaders are corrupt as fukk and still serve as puppets for their colonial masters (neocolonialism).
Look how France is always ready to intervene whenever one of their puppets gets overthrown (in the guise of "humanitarian reasons").
French companies still dominate the extraction, sales and distribution of mineral resources in the region.
Politicians get their kickbacks while the locals get crumbs (or nothing) :snoop:
