Football is headed for an uncertain future and it has absolutely nothing to do with concussions. People don't care about other people being in pain as long as they are getting what they want. As far as the pipeline goes, as long as there are poor people and football players get millions you will have players. What's gonna do football in is the same thing that did boxing in...becoming too expensive/more trouble than it's worth/distancing themselves from the fans. The NFL seems as if they are actively trying to find that point where fans say "Enough!".

As evidenced by this thread a lot people dont really care what happens to these players 20-30 years after they retire :yeshrug:

The players THEMSELVES are saying that! Read the article about offensive players "negotiating" with defensive players to hit them high instead of low...these dudes EMBRACE the risk and their futures as a result of their decisions. These Coli dudes act like they know better than the players do for their own lives. :stopitslime:

"Oooh, it's so barbaric, being entertained by such violence! We're morally reprehensible! " Yeah, cause that's not what the Greeks and Romans were when they frequented gladiator matches and threw people to the lions....but they were the height of civility for mankind, right?

:mjlol: at all you bleeding heart liberal pussies in here defending this fakkitry. You gotta be a truly devoted, card-carrying member of "bytch nikkas R Us" to even entertain this shyt. Some of you dudes don't even WATCH the sport you complaining about, so WTF is your REAL problem? :heh: at all you mini-Tipper Gore ass nikkas.

Leave football alone, if it destroys itself SO BE IT, just get your sorry asses outta its way until it DOES. :camby:

:dwillhuh: why you mad bruh? I'm not telling you to not watch Football. If you enjoy watching the game while knowing what it does to these players, then that's cool with me. It means you are aware of and accept the contribution you are making.

You don't know the long term effects as a player though, I was down for some aches and pains when I was older, I thought big deal. Then I got my third concussion in one season and I was waking up in places not knowing where I was, throwing up and blacking out all for a chance just to play in the CFL. Had to retire before I even got to play one game because I couldn't pass a physical. Fast forward two years and I still have memory issues and headaches the criple me. I would never do that shyt again and I love the game. You just don't know what you're getting yourself into until its too late bruh, I can't speak for everyone but it wasn't worth it for me. Not to mention the painkiller side of it as well.

Possibly. But it seems they're rooting for it because they like soccer and cant understand why Americans dont enjoy the game. This is where their animosity is coming from...I doubt horse really worries about football players health.

As far as the denial goes...I'll just keep enjoying my NFL sundays like I always have. Wake me up when they take those away.
:pachaha: im on two football teams. im not rooting for anything to happen, i'm just smart enough to see that the game is brutal and the costs of pro football are too great.

you doubt i really worry about their health? :what: are you just calling me an indecent human being? cause that's just mean

you'll notice i've said consistently in this thread that the game is dying even WITHOUT the health issues that i apparently don't care about because i am 100% apathetic towards people throwing away physical and mental capabilities for a 3-7 years of a ball game

come off it breh, your love of wasting time watching the jets lose every year is preventing you from seeing what's really happening.

if i weren't born a redskins fan, a team with an owner that exists to insult the intelligence of its fanbase, i'd probably still be a little more on the fence about this. but im glad i've been driven away by the fukkery of the team i was born into, it's helped me see the truth a lot more easily than others.

honestly the jets are as big a fukkboy team as the skins, you should be happy to hear what i'm saying.

also i could be wrong but i've never seen @Malta discuss soccer in depth here, at least not in the huge thread we have on here, and it's not really talked about anywhere else. i could be wrong, but i dont think he's a huge fan. he's free to correct me if im wrong, BUT soccer and football are not at odds with one another, i dont see why liking one means i want the other to fail.

The long term trajectory for the sport's popularity does not look good.

The long-terms trajectory for MOST THINGS in this life don't look good!

However, a football game is still the best excuse for otherwise reasonable Americans to go get trashed off drank
on fall and winter weekends. I don't see that changing anytime soon...

There are risks involved in every sport, including soccer, where studies have linked heading to neurological issues. In football day, college and league officials have barred helmet-to-helmet hits and reduced concussion likelihood. Meanwhile in soccer, players are getting concussions without medical treatment on the sidelines to help them.

But the game isn't dying. There are more people watching and paying for football than ever before in history. There are likely more total people playing football than ever before in history too. If there wasn't a NFL salary cap, NFL players' earnings would reach or eclipse baseball's players.

where are the soccer players with CTE and ALS as a result of these headers?

where are the suicides and murder-suicides by soccer players, wrought by years of consistent violence on the pitch?

who are the retired players that report not being able to handle loud prolonged sound or bright lights?

there is a problem with FIFA's treatment of concussions, hopefully it is improved soon.

but the risks of soccer dont touch those of football. stop it.

again i ask, what does soccer have to do with football?

and how have they reduced concussion likelihood? by fining players who hit with helmets? suspending them a couple games?

there is no safe way to play this game, and helmets don't protect from concussions. not only that, you dont have to get hit in the head to get a concussion. a perfectly legal hit in football can concuss someone, and who is to blame? the guy who is playing by the rules? nope.

"more than ever before in history" :dwillhuh: what does "history" mean to you? the game is like 100 years old, and has been dominant in a total of ONE country for about two decades.

and show me facts. because i see more stadiums with tarps or empty 2nd rungs, and more local blackouts.

everyone of yall who keep chatting this about profits and toughness have a strong emotional attachment to the game. that says something.

I'm not sure that the " football is dying" cats realize that the NFL pulls in 2x as much money as English Premier League...and is the most profitable sports league on the planet...... all while apparently being a "niche sport" thats supposedly dying slowly

Listen to sports writers who will claim anything is the demise of football.

i dont dislike football. i play on two football teams. i'm just an unbiased observer. and it's an interesting conversation, and when it's not, it's fun to see dudes like you skip through paragraphs and make dumbass assumptions with your fingers plugged in your ears

again with the profits. you wanna talk business?

barclays premier league has merchandise, tv rights, and overseas friendlies every summer on different continents. you got teams signing players from foreign markets just to cash in on shirt sales.

the nfl makes all of its money from ONE country. a country that is turning against it, little by little

and if the english league goes under, the game is played at an elite level in at least 2-3 other countries, and at a high level in many more, INCLUDING THIS ONE. the game itself is not inextricably linked to the league. if the nfl takes a hit, what happens? brehs gonna support the alouettes?

now why the fukk is everyone in this thread obsessed with soccer? who's gonna answer that question?

It's so gigantic currently it'd almost be impossible to grow. But as long as it's on I'll always be tuning in to root for the Jets. The NFL will never lose their core base(those who tune in to watch their favorite team- not fantasy, not gambling etc).

I preferred the old NFL prior to Jerruh and Goodell taking over...but this is the best we've got for now.

And your Spurs are about the only thing good about the NBA. Lebron being the GM of the NBA is bad for the on the floor product, but better for their financial growth in the short term. At least with the NFL- the league isnt run by a few players and where they want to play- there's still a competitive dynamic. Where will the NBA be in 10 years when Lebron is gone?

They'll get another one.

See, you can't go on and talk about how great football will continue to be and discredit every other sport that's built to keep progressing.

The EPL is based in a country with 1/5th the population of the US and you're bragging about having twice as much revenue. The combined population of Italy, France, Spain, UK and Germany is LESS than that of the US, and the leagues in those 5 countries generate over $14 billion, almost twice as much as the NFL.

All of the European leagues as a whole pump out nearly $30 billion a year.
