It’s been 8 years of severe mental illness. I’m in my early 20s. Birthday is in a week. I feel like I’ve given up on life too soon. I want to end up in remission and recovery for my issues. These disorders have taken so much and I can’t let them take anymore. I’m here to live and be free in the truest, most authentic, most visceral and powerful sense.

This is the beginning a prosperous era for me.

I just have give myself the chance to succeed.

Here’s to the next 8 years!
Maybe depending on your skillset or goal you can travel or start newaybe ..whatever your goal is good luck

Wow man salute
For you to broke down like this. I diffinitely feel you need a therapist. Find out from your insurance. Understand it's normal to be nervous walking into a clinic just remember the same way you can be hurt physically like a broken leg ,you are working on your mind. These people are professionals and as you become comfortable talking don't hold back.also it will take time for a therapist to get to know you.
Appreciate it breh dap and rep

Right now I go to 3 mental health counseling sessions per week. They even sent me to a hospital/rehab center for 4 weeks.

Initially I didn’t want to go but now I look forward to it. I have Tricare but I encourage all brehs to check with their insurance to see what their coverage offers.

If at the least please vent to a close family member or friend who will not judge you

Just started a monthly therapy session - compartmentalizing my days down into specific time slots actually has helped me feel better about the day.

Doing something *new* to spark my day has given me something to look forward to, alongside talking to my girlfriend and balancing school, research, and work.

I won't have more than one drink in a day - avoiding an easy dependence.

Do you feel like the sessions are helping you?
Thinking about talking to a therapist, but my ego and pride as a man is stopping me.
They really were because it was so much going on in my life and I needed just someone to listen and give me feedback that wasn’t biased. And honestly I sought out someone I felt comfortable opening up to... I purposely picked a black woman out of the listed in my network. I hoped she was older cause i didn’t want to open up to a sista girl... I wanted to open up to an older woman. Like a motherly figure or an aunt... that could be cause of repressed things but she really helped.

so far this year I have highs and lows, lately more highs but I’m nervous of when the tide hits how hard will it be... will I get back up or let it take me under?

Plz don’t let your pride stop you. We all need to get things off our chests. Your spiritual being and mental being is counting on you like your body counts on you to keep it healthy.

Hell
I did therapy twice and it didn't help me. It's a bit different for me since it's mostly insecurity and it's something I have to fix.

Milk in cookies is dropping good game but remember she's a woman so it's different for her than most men. She's a woman who may have issues we don't deal with.

It didn't help me because the therapist tried to shift the blame to another area and that wasn't helping me.

If you're a man and it's moreso with women or money or self image, shifting the blame to another area won't help, you gotta tackle that first hand.

I don't advise it for men who have issues with women or money, no amount of therapy is gonna fix that unless you fix that issue yourself.

A woman who can get laid at will, it's different for her and her therapy is for another issue.

Insecurity won't be fixed by anything but fixing that, whether money, attention or whatever. Most black males don't need therapy we need money and a better image if that's the problem.

I wish you was able to go once a week like most do as standard but nevertheless that's great man. Glad you have your girl on your side and at the very least you have school and work to balance things out while your working on your mind

I'm active also.

Are the therapist on base pretty good?
It’s actually pretty good. They had me paired up with a white guy and I requested a switch. Now
I see a black guy and an Indian woman.

They stay on top of all this stuff, bc at work things can get pretty serious. Actually had a friend of mine commit suicide a couple months back.

That’s the last thing they want to happen, so if there’s anything you need they’ll hook you up

Finally made an appointment with the therapist.
If anybody knows me this was a huge step considering my pride.
Went to first session, they think I have light depression and anxiety. Doc prescribed me Zoloft. :francis:
I have 5 sessions with a guidance counselor :yeshrug:
