You act like the trilogy didn't have the same static combat. It's literally take cover, shoot, and hope your squad doesn't stupidly run into a bullet shower. The reason why the combat was good in Andromeda is because you had room to fight. If the trilogy didn't have such an amazing story and characters then the gameplay would be criticized way more. The vaults were basically a more extensive version of the outposts in ME1, which is why I said both ME1 & MEA are similar in a lot of ways.

Again, I'll give you that we had the ability to see the trilogy go through three games.

But, the first game was a pretty close ended story and the only real thread left hanging was the Reaper threat.

And you critiquing the first game on 2024 standards.

The first game came out in 2007  I graduated high school a year before. The 1st Witcher, Half-Life 2, the 1st Assassin' Creed, and Wii Play was the highest selling game.

Andromeda came out 2017. And it was not supposed to be a clean break from the series. Yes, it was 400 light years away, but, it had the benefit of an established IP.

And the best selling games that year was GTA5 , Breath of the Wild, NieR Automata, Destiny 2, Horizon Zero Dawn, SW Battlefront 2.

Yes, Mass Effect is dated as shyt in a lot of areas, but, it stood tall with the games of it's time.

:snoop: I'm back to arguing about that game and I just realized it's been 7 years since it dropped.

Combat was literally the only good part about the game though and not for people that originally liked the rpg aspects of ME
Awesome point; Andromeda was a horrible RPG.

Much how over the course of the trilogy the RPG elements were toned done and the the experience would have suffered if not for the incredible story direction and writing.

And this is with a bunch of plot holes and horrible decisions with the plot, like;

Cerberus being the Galactic Villain Order after it being made clear they were a small pro-human terrorist organization, now they got as much resources as the fukking Systems Alliance

Yes the only loose end to tie up was the threat the entire franchise was based on. :russ: Also it's not unfair to critique a game based on current standards, since that's the mark of a truly great game. ME1 is dated but overall it's still a great game. All I've ever said is that Andromeda gets too much hate, and that you can't do a 1vs3 type of comparison.

I can agree to disagree on that bolded point,

I'll give you Andromeda's combat over even the entire trilogy. You got it.

Hell, I'll admit to even over hating it because of it damn near ended the IP.

But, you said that the only characters fleshed were Ashley, Kaiden, and Liara. Garrus, Wrez and Tali had a full story arc in just the first game.

My problem with the "Ya'll are comparing all three games to just one" completely ignores the shortcomings of Andromeda by throwing a strawman.

I can easily take away Mass Effect 2 (which lowkey, word to @42 Monks has a horrible story with awesome characters and final mission) & 3 and argue Andromeda is bad game on it's on merit.

But, I can also just compare it to the first ME.

Andromeda was written like a game that was the first of a trilogy; Mass Effect would've still be good without one.

Mass Effect 1: Saren is trying to open a back door to get the Reaper Invasion started. You gather allies. You prove Saren is a problem. You become a You beat the Reaper that is actively attacking you. You mobilize enough allies to fight it, you stop Saren.

My point was Mass Effect told it's story in that one game. The only loose thread is that idea that the Reapers will eventually come back.

Mass Effect Andromeda: You travel 400 lightyears away to find a new home for the galactic races.
  • Ryder goes from "The Captain's Kid" to Leader of what left of the human race (aka Shepard) with no actual character development. His dad gives him super powers to see flowing flashes.
  • You don't even resolve the mutiny and that is horribly set up.
  • You don't even save all the Arcs--they tried to play us and save the Quarian arc for DLC.
  • They set up a lazy copy of the Quarian/Geth/Collector/Prothean & Leviathan/Reaper story from the trilogy. They made the Jorddann a secret ancient race with no idea of what that would lead. We just knew it related to the Kett being revealed to be the "Reaper-fied" version of the angrian.
  • We don't even know what happened to Ryder Dad from the beginning of the game :laff:
  • Don't get me started on those garbage as fetch quest for the Liara messages with zero idea as to why it even matters what happened during the Reaper War when it was 400 years ago.
  • Did we even find out what the secret was behind the Andromeda Initiative?
They hid so many more interesting plot points behind that garabge ass plot; go to each plant and press the Teraform button. OMG, stop the powerful man from getting the powerful thing that will rule the galaxy.

Happy N7 Day, I'm back to arguing about Andromeda :snoop:
