my guy, i've posted links with a nikka that literally studied it most of his life. there's research showing it, too

a lot of people dont have inner dialogue. there's nothing wrong with it per se.

but the saying "common sense is uncommon" just feels more real now. knowing that a lot of people dont think ahead makes so many things make sense

If you have no hope, you will not think ahead.. If you have no fear of consequences, you will not think ahead.

I don't have to research anything to know that if people had no fear of the afterlife, they are less likely to serve a God.. I also know if you have hope of virgins in the afterlife, you'll strap an bomb onto yourself and blow up a crowded bus. If you remove hope from people, they will not think towards a future. Its not as cut and dry as you or that researcher is trying to make it..

On consideration, I can see this being true. I say this as someone who has internal dialogues.

There are a lot of things we do and understand on a daily basis. If someone was to ask you to describe what you're doing, it might take some consideration.

There are somethings the brain automatically puts into the desired output. Typing would be an example. The understanding/intent can be expressed in my fingers rather than the words formed in my head.
