Way biggerThe Lion King was the Frozen of the 90s and that's probably underselling it.
It’s the highest producing theater production of all time

I knew that going in, but still was when I seen those numbers. When something comes out that people want to see, reviews don’t matter. Good or bad. This was always going to be huge. Only question was how huge
I saw Lion King 3 times in the theater. Best movie experience/soundtrack of my childhood. The Lion King was the Frozen of the 90s and that's probably underselling it.
Dude sitting next to me was like
“Damn bruh Simba finna die” during the early Elephant Graveyard scene
And the when Nala is grown he turn to me like “a breh is that Beyonce? “
Men lie, women lie, numbers don’t200M opening?!?!?!
Never underestimate Beyhiveobviously high. them reviews did nothing.
Never underestimate Beyhive
This movie was just....blah. Saw it earlier today and the more I think about it the less I like it. If i want to watch the “Lion King” I’ll just watch the original.
On paper, the cast and crew looked great. Visually it’s and the music is still
But the execution of it was just
James Earl Jones sounded like he was going through the motions re-reading his lines as Mufasa. Donald Glover sounded zooted out his mind when he was playing Simba. And Beyonce sounded like she was reading from the script and not ACTING if that makes sense.
However the main highlights was Seth Rogan and Billy Eichner as Timon and Pumbaa. Chiwetel Ejiofor was great as Scar, he was a nice successor to Jeremy Irons. And the hyenas were cool. Other then that..its a naw from me.
The “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” scene taking place during the day
The stampede looked trash compared to the animated version. And I know it’s little shyt but that was so GRAND and epically suspenseful that they could have done MORE with that. Simba could have easily moved to the side during that shyt and survived that.
Taking out THIS fukkING MOMENT WAS IDOTIC AS fukk!
That moment was such a crucial moment for Simba to realize his growth and is lowkey the key plot point for the character. Instead for the remake, after Simba sees Mufasa’s ghost in the thunder clouds (which you barely see btw), Simba goes “You know what? You right..”
Making Nala have a more crucial role just cause you have Beyonce
Even the ending had me annoyed, Simba roars too damn early before the finale music hits its peak. YOU COULDN’T EVEN GET THAT RIGHT?!
Disappointing
I wouldn’t mind never seeing this movie ever again. I’d stick with the original. Some Disney classics are meant to stay as is.
Lupita Nyong'o should have been Naya while Beyonce should have just did the soundtrack.
People don't get the purpose of criticism. Movie quality is a an inherently subjective thing. Yes we have general standards we all agree on, but you can't objectively say a movie is good or bad.
It's all conversation, and the job of critics is to provide a more experienced voice in that conversation as they see a lot of movies and many of them have even studied film. Folks don't want to see it that way though. They use shyt like RT to position critics as trying to provide some kind of objective measure, and are mad when they disagree.
This is in line with what I've been seeing people say. The actors just completely shyt the bed.
I probably wont be seeing this unless my sisters drag me to it. The Lion King is like my older sister's favorite movie.
Watched yesterday at 9.
Movie lacks soul. The aninal faces were just too realistic. Gorgeous but soulless, like an IG model.
Thought the voice acting was hit or miss. Wasnt a fan of beyonce as Nala
Anyone thinking Reviews were gonna stop "The Lion King" they weren't alive in 94. Or wasn't old enough to experience the Impact. The Original Lion King adjusted for inflation is over 800 Million domestic. It's the highest grossing non-Computer Animated film of all time. Looks like this one is putting up those type of numbers. LOL @ These critics inflated egos. This was a Lock to kill the Box Office. The movie was straight, basically a shot for shot remake but the photo realism was dope. It was like "National Geographic" The movie basically. I'm not mad at it, I got my "Lion King "in 94. I'm totally fine with a new generation experiencing the story. This movie doesn't change the Legendary Iconic Status of the original but it did compliment it.
Don't think any paid critics actually thought they'd impact the box office cause that's not their job. G and PG movies are basically bulletproof box office wise because Hollywood barely makes any of them nowadays.
