It’s naughty dog so I’m assuming that’s what they’re going with
The fire fly faction was not innocent and with the revelation of other immune people being out there, they didnt really need Ellie. She was basically a scientist project to them, but was like a second daughter to Joel.
Nothing I've seen or read from any leaked videos or plot summaries gives me a good reason to sympathize with Abby, she's just angry and willing to murder in the most brutal ways possible. Joel was doing what he had to do, Abby is bringing slow and painful deaths to favorite characters and willing to do sadistic shyt in pursuit of revenge. Joel never seemed as cold hearted as Abby does in these leaks. It felt like everything he did was simply to survive while Abby does sadistic shyt because she enjoys the pain it brings.
Not having ellie as the protagonist throughout the entire game may end up being a grave mistake.
I'm sure that's exactly what they're going for, but it very well may fail.

they could of legit had this EXACT same plot with her killing Joel for the same reasons, but still have you play as Ellie as the whole game tracking her in Revenge for Joel, not sure why they had to be extra with it and make you play as Joel’s Murderer, “subvert expectations” culture keeps fukking with all my favourite media

that’s my point and it’d be a great feat if they can pull it off...I’m pretty sure that was a challenge they wanted so I’m surprised to see some folks writing off the story so soon...granted the impact would’ve been stronger if it happened in the moment tho...w/ dudes having access to the spoilers some are gonna be adamant about not giving the new character a chance and force themselves to remain hateful of her...truth be told the story has me interested in checking the game out...it’s the gameplay that I’m not looking forward to
There was also a "leak" that there are more immune people, but, I can't find that, again.
But, that leak was also saying that Abby was Ellie's mother or something.
