this is what I’m talking about bro, how is Marlene gonna know where they are? How are they gonna contact her? What are the chances they’d run into each other across the country? How does that reflect on how Marlene feels about Ellie overall or prove your point in any way? You’re either trying to be as disingenuous as possible to drag this debate on (trolling) or you’re just straight up not engaging your brain/using logic

@Pineal Gland

:gucci::gucci::mjtf::mjtf:

da hell u talking bout - i NEVER said anything about how Marlene feels about Ellie

this is what I’m talking about ... why do you continuously jump into a conversation I’m having with somebody else and then post things that I didn’t even say ... that makes you the troll

and for the record .. the poster that I’m replying to said Marlene was always looking after Ellie and I just prove that couldn’t be true based off the damn near year Joel spent with her traveling across the country & Marlene had absolutely no idea if Ellie was alive; was well; where she was at; who she was with... etc..

:snoop:

It took them almost a year to deliver her and not in one occasion did Marlene ever pop-up or cross paths with them and actually Marlene was shocked they even made it ..... Marlene had no idea if Ellie was alive&well, over that span of a year ... yet you are in here trying to convince people that she was looking after Ellie all this time

:mjlol: fanboys

I don’t have a narrative, not even sure you’re implying mine is - wrong

I got you banned from the other thread - wrong

I made it because people were putting spoilers in the anticipation thread, I had no idea on the reaction as at the time I didn’t know the spoilers - wrong

I’d probably say the reaction in here since it dropped has leant more positive, so again - wrong

I wasn’t going to love this game regardless because Naughty Dog made it, but I do have them held to a high standard due to the usual quality of their games (for the record, this game is great, not perfect) so - wrong

Ill leave it there bro

:jbhmm:

well I said I didn’t know and I take your word for it

and now I see it makes sense for you to make this thread if people were putting the leaks in the official thread - so I give you props for that

at the end of the day ... I don’t have anything against u : we just 2 different people with 2 different opinions on this 1 single game :hubie:

I wasn’t implying anything I was trying to prove she couldn’t possibly be looking after her under the circumstances that I have already posted

and to answer your question
from the eyes of Marlene “YES”
from the eyes of Ellie “NO”

A child can't choose who their guardian is and according to the letter from her mom, her guardian is Marlene.:unimpressed:

Like you fanboys are completely delusional and live in imaginary world - you keep regurgitating & trying to convince me that Marlene looked after Ellie... when they’re no proof & only met/knew each other for a month or 2
You found the proof for me:unimpressed:
@6:39 in the video that YOU posted:mjlol:

"Marlene then reveals that she had been watching over Ellie, even setting her up to be sent to the military school as a safe place."

It took them almost a year to deliver her and not in one occasion did Marlene ever pop-up or cross paths with them and actually Marlene was shocked they even made it ..... Marlene had no idea if Ellie was alive&well, over that span of a year ... yet you are in here trying to convince people that she was looking after Ellie all this time
You know damn well I was talking about events prior to the game, obviously she wasn't watching over her during her time with Joel:mjlol:

Just finished the game and that ending :gucci::mjtf::what:

so Ellie left her family behind to go save Abby? Im so conflicted brehs.
Nah, it’s deeper than that. I can sum it up as - sometimes you just gotta have reality smack you in the face

She couldn’t let go of the vengeance, the promise she made to Tommy made her feel like she was responsible for Joel’s death - like she could have done something. It’s why she kept getting PTSD.

When she saw Abby at the end, in such a state, after leaving her family. She realized how pointless it all was - killing Abby wouldn’t have solved a thing. When you really understand both of them were wrong - and two wrong don’t make a right.

Like forreal - the world is falling apart around them and she’s gonna kill again? After all the shyt she’s been through? For what? It wouldn’t have made Joel come back and it damn sure wouldn’t have been fulfilling. I can see an alternate ending where she does kill her - comes back to an empty house and shots herself.

If anything, if she did kill her she would have realized it was all for nothing - and that would have been worse than sparing her.

The point is - she couldn’t have it both ways. She cared more about avenging Joel than Dina and her new family. She betrayed her trust and literally walked out on them because of some old grudge - it’s selfish. That’s why in the end, she lost them.

the director implied that she didn’t lose them, she actually was with them in Jackson. He said the original ending had her going back to the house to find one of JJs toys that he left on the tractor and then leaving. But he said that made it too obvious that she had a happy ending, he wanted it to be more up for interpretation

your right a child can’t make that decision only a judge
:francis:

You found the proof for me:unimpressed:

show me proof Marlene, looked after her
i know what she said ... but that’s not proof - plus how can the leader of this anti-government militia group with thousand of members from all across the country YET have the time to look after a child in a whole nother location
:francis:

I know you was referring to the events prior to the game ... the issue is - a person who is one’s guardian ; is their guardian all the time - so, that year trip between Joel and Ellie traveling across the country is no excuse

i had time this morning : so i did a quick Google search of becoming a guardian to a child

Well said bruh. I was able to pick up on Ellie making a selfish decision and losing her family shyt pretty quickly I knew she’d more than likely come back to nothing. (I just thought Dina would be dead instead)

I guess I need to play the game again or something. She hunts Abby for months killing mad people on the way. We murked an entire new group of people to get to Abby :mjlol: and then she suddenly is ready to end the cycle of killing. It just didnt feel like a natural progression to that decision. :yeshrug:

I still enjoyed it but that ending was a little mid.

Lowkey Ellie’s decision is somewhat of a redemption of what Joel did - she didn’t pull the trigger, when he selfishly did

In his case, Joel took the selfish option after all he had done to get Ellie to that hospital. And you saw all of the grief and death that decision caused.

Idk if I’m quoting correctly, but I remember one of them saying in the game that “they only kill if they have a reason.” Yes, even though both of them killed people - it’s always been for a reason.

Ellie did all of that, killed all those people, to get to Abby - but then realized it was all for nothing. She realized it all wasn’t worth it at the end.

I’d say if anything, the fight was just the closure she personally needed to get the stress out and to try to make Abby feel the pain she went through. But then she realized that she couldn’t break her - because they’re essentially two sides of the same coin, both justified.

Side note: Idk if you noticed but if you go back you’ll notice the camera focuses on the kid Abby was with. You know for a fact they would have come back with a vengeance and I know Ellie was conscious that her decision would have put the same vengeance her and Abby went through.

In a way, she was able to take the higher road and right Joel’s wrongs.

Breh youve made the best points out of anyone ive talked to about this game. Anytime id tell someone my ONE gripe theyd start going off on me :mjlol:

I didnt notice the kid looking :ohhh: I was so focused on drowning Abby. Imma have to run this back one more time. The parallels between the two characters was dope. If they wouldve been able to have Ellie find out a little more about who Abby really was I think she may have come to her decision to not kill her sooner.

I didn’t like the ending at all when I played it, people’s breakdowns/theories had me looking at this entirely different, I actually prefer the idea she didn’t kill her now, it actually makes more sense
