People really tryna paint Joel as this hero all of a sudden just because they don’t like what goes down in this one lol, he was a good character to play as, but let’s not act as if he also wasn’t a piece of shyt, He is the embodiment of an anti hero

I planned to stay away from this thread but I was never gonna stay completely unspoilt with Social media ect, i don’t know as much as y’all and I won’t watch a single second of gameplay or cutscene, but so far I know the buff chick from that first trailer kills Joel and you play a part of the game as her..I don’t like the sound of that honestly but we’ll see, I’m sure they still made a great game

It not about making Joel a “hero”..
The Last of Us wasn’t perfect..
I can understand when someone says they didn’t like it..
But the story is what gripped the masses..
Joel embodies what it’s like to be a man..
You make some really fukked up choices sometimes..
Just to survive..
Right or wrong..
Also the mirroring of a father and daughter relationship..
Sure, it’s a trope that has been done better..
Throughout gaming and cinematic history..
You really felt for the characters..
Sam and Henry still pisses me off..
And they clearly were sacrifices to push forward Ellie/Joels narrative..
But I digress..
The story was about cultivating relationships in the darkest of times..
A lot of people outchea have walls built up..
Because of shame and regret..
Joel’s story fits that narrative..
The first game also had other dynamic relationships..
Bill/Joel/Ellie..
Sam/Henry..
Tess/Joel
Marlene
David and his cannibals..
Fans and players had connections to these characters..
So to now see these leaks and convoluted plot..
It just makes no sense..
You built up this world to turn it into something else..
I don’t care about the politics they are trying to push forward..
Give me a good story..
Kill Joel in a better way then him wincing on the ground like a p*ssy..
If you are going to kill Ellie..
Make the shyt make sense..
None of this shyt makes sense..
This sequel could have been so much more..
So many ways they could have built off the first ending..
If they really wanted to explore vengeance..
Marlene/David definitely had people in their camps wanting to exact violence..

my main thing is that how can they expect to us to want and enjoy to be playing as the character who kills Joel? They know how popular he is, I wont buy this game. Everything they built up in last of us 1 is basically pointless now. Thats why alot of us are mad, i dont give a shyt about Ellie being lesbian ( we already knew this if you played the DLC).

for example this is like uncharted 4 Rafe kills Nate at the beginning of the game and for the rest of the game you are Rafe hunting down Elena and Sully.

Naughty Dog has always treated Joel like a secondary character. You can tell the whole Last of Us 1 that they were setting Ellie up to be her own person. Idk why this comes as a surprise to y'all... We knew the direction they were headed from the trailer and from making Ellie a lesbian. In Uncharted 4 they made Nathan have a daughter even though I'm sure we all would've loved it if he had a son. They also had a dyke antagonist and the lost legacy was with just women. I'm just surprised uncharted 4 they didn't kill him off and make you play as Elaina.

Storyline wise, this is a post apocalyptic wasteland. It shouldn't have a nice happy ending realistically. Joel is the villain in the first game, he murders numerous doctors in the end that were just looking to find a cure to help humans survive for his own selfish reasons.

The doctor's daughter seeking revenge gives weight to a world where you murder the NPCs without a second thought. Shows that there are consequences and lasting effects to your actions within the games universe.
