I agree. I found the ending powerful and satisfying.

If they want to milk the franchise, it'd be better to go with new protagonists with no connection to these ones, and a whole new story line on the other side of the continent, or maybe a whole other country.

But at that point is that even worth the energy (since they'd be restricted to the universal laws and mechanics established in the last 2 games), compared to just making a new franchise from scratch? One that's maybe not even zombie based.

nah I think you would kill momentum if you just hopped to new characters. They have to continue this story line, it’s the entire reason they introduced new characters in part 2. They knew the Joel/Ellie story couldn’t go on forever.

part 3 should pick up right where 2 left off. You spend the first part of the game wrapping up Ellie’s story and then jump to Abby/Lev. There is a lot of directions they can go with those two.

See, i didn't walk away thinking there was momentum. I felt it was kinda complete.

I think we're in agreement that it may not be worth the energy in introducing new characters with a new story branch, but in that case i'd be ok with them moving on with a new IP. Not everything has to be a trilogy.

But with how much money it made, i wouldn't be surprised if this isn't the last iteration.

A part 3 next gen is almost guaranteed. This is probably the hottest game franchise around with an HBO series coming soon. They will never leave that much money on the table.

they already said there's no one else to that could come up with a cure

I have a serious problem with this tho. Neil druckman said the cure would have been guaranteed if they went along with the procedure but I have a hard time believing that the fire flies were that close to a cure but the death of one man stopped it.

That's a plot hole that could easily be the basis for a third game, joel didn't kill all the doctors, theres gotta someone that was smart enough to document their research.

All those doctors were on the verge of a medical breakthrough and only one of them actually knew what the fukk they were working on? I find that hard to believe.

I don't see what the problem is with that.. Abby's dad was close to a cure not the fireflies.. He just happened to be a Firefly.. It's not like the Fireflys were a bunch of doctors..

It would be convenient writing to double back on that Ellie moment when she heard that no one else could come up with a cure..

And those other people in the room aren't necessarily doctors.. They could be but maybe they weren't.. And doctors aren't necessarily able to able to come up with cures.. That was a skill that Abby's dad in particular was able to come up with and not all doctors would be able to extract a cure from her...

Of course technically there could be another doctor somewhere in the country that could do it but again, that's just convenient lazy writing...

They've already addressed a journey towards a cure in part 1...

One man alone knowing the recipe for the cure is lazy writing.

If that was the case then they should have left it ambiguous on rather or not they could have found the cure. Instead Neil claimed the cure was certain.

It would only make since that Abby's dad would be the lead doctor on a team of medical professionals working towards a cure. It couldn't have just been one man alone working towards the cure, one man alone couldn't have gotten a close as he did without help.

if they weren't gonna revisit the the cure angle, or bring ellie and abby back for a third game then there was no point in leaving them both alive. If they dont have plans for a third game there there was no point in them both living at the end.

In the world of the Last of Us, not necessarily..

It's not as if there's communication across the country. Ellie knew about it because she was close to the Fireflys herself...

Outside of that, the chance of her coming across someone who could come up with a cure would be small.. Most people in this world don't leave their communities if they've found one and if they're out in the wild, you're just surviving..

And leaving them both alive spoke to them on their journeys towards redemption. Abby was already there and Ellie is just starting her own..

The current ending makes no sense.

It would have given a point to that pointless ass last few hours.

:francis:

you think one of them should have killed the other, and that it’s a bad ending that Ellie decides not to kill Abby to keep hold of her humanity, along with finally forgiving Joel & Abby since she realised they did the things they did because they thought they were the right things to do to bring them peace, while ALSO seeing the comparison of her & Joel & Abby & Lev And stop the cycle there..

but you think Abby & Ellie teaming up after everything to go to the Fireflys would make more sense? I’m not trying to come at you personally, but you see how that looks kinda dumb right? saying you don’t like the ending is fine, a lot of people don’t, but it DOES make sense, your version raises way more questions lol

I would have preferred if one of them died
:stopitslime:

The teaming up shyt is stupid, but I like it more than ellie slaughtering hundreds of people like a psycho then having a change of heart when it came to the one person you've been trying to kill the entire game.

shyt was wack, it should have ended at the theater if that's the angle they wanted to go with, that last fight did not need to happen.

We just gonna have to agree to disagree then, honestly it sounds like some bits went over your head, and this is coming from someone who thought what you thought when I first finished, but after letting it sink in there’s way more that points to that being the right ending
