Tbh the gay stuff was pretty tame for an HBO show.

Right now they are traveling through infected free zones so makes sense they aren't facing them. I guess episode 6 or 7 will probably be a big "escape the infected" one (when we see the Bloater from the trailers) before closing out the season with another human-centric one.
There's not a lot to do with zombies either. It works in a video game setting but in a TV one it would get repetitive and kinda pointless to have Joel going guns blazing all the time.
