Yeah the story was badly written. It no longer had nothing to do with the infected, surviving, and finding a cure. The infected were just background annoyances and everybody gave up finding a cure. The premise of the original game was long gone.

If anything this was just a spinoff

I don't think the main story of the first game was about finding a cure, sure Joel was taking Elly to the Fireflies so they could do research for a cure, but the main arc was watching Joel and Elly's relationship develop into one of a father daughter.

Not sure how the 2nd one would be a spinoff when it was a direct result of Joel destroying the father/daughter relationship for someone else.

In the first one, the Fireflies were hellbent on finding a cure, that shyt ended when Joel killed the guy with the medical expertise.

It was about getting Eli to the fireflies. She was the cure to making the world back normal. And Eli couldn't have been the only one that was immune. Instead of looking for somebody else that was willing to risk , they gave up. They ditched the entire premise and told a story that had nothing to do with be world, the disease, and the infected. As I said prior, I can point to several good unbiased sources that all say the story was bad.
