True story. I would agree that NYC and the Tri-state area still is the most densely-littered area with mafia activity, but it is very much so alive and well in the South. And I'm glad you mentioned New Orleans. Most people don't know it, but the Italian/Sicilian Mafia in the US STARTED in New Orleans. It is VERY deeply rooted here. Ever been to Bourbon Street...then you've been in countless mafia-owned establishments. Ever seen the port in New Orleans? You know, the largest inland port in the USA which also operates as a recognized Foreign Trade Zone? Totally owned and ran by the Italians. They stay very well-hidden, but they are VERY active in New Orleans and they stay very closely tied to family in NYC.

And I'm sorry, but BMF? Street gangs? GDs? GTFOH. Do you know how many gangs have tried to come to New Orleans and leave their mark? Countless. Do you know how many succeeded? 0. Maybe 1? The street gangs in New Orleans are rugged as fukk. No outside street gangs come here. And no one, including the gangs already present, fukk with the Italian/Sicilian mob here.

New Orleans was the biggest port in the US at one time before there were even 50 states.
Italian Mafia made loot and prospered in New York because of the influx of immigrants and unstructured urban landscapes that seemingly popped up overnight.
Traditionally the Mafia always worked the ports (pre colonial America) so things always "fell off" the boat.
Ship 100 barrels of gold, only 98 gonna make it.
Look at the current garment and food industry in New York, those "acceptable losses" which can account for 20-25% stock disappearing is mafia related, Russian and Italian.

Low key, Casino is accurate af...in fact they had like 4 or 5 Casino's not just one. The only "fake" parts were the name changes (Nicky Santoro in the movie = Tony Spilotro irl, etc.) and some of the scenes and murders took place in Chicago and San Diego rather than in Vegas.

...watch this doc below on the whole shyt in vegas...some of the scenes in Casino are ripped right out of the news clips.
