"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1" thread

I'm one of the few that also like the 3rd book and have read it multiple times. It is realistic for a war movie and what happens to Katniss at the end happens to a lot of war heroes and political prisoners.

I just saw the movie last night.

Favorite parts: this wasn't explained in the book, but how the rescue of the tributes out of Capitol was pretty good. The suicide members at the damn scene had me thinking they were trying to make a statement about Islamic militant suicide bombers responding to western dictatorship. Peeta at the end was actually scary.

Weak parts: they tried to invoke emotion in places that seemed inauthentic, like using the hanging tree song as district folks marched together in a line. This love triangle angle with Peeta and Gale has to stop. All the times they zoomed in on Katniss and her cry with her mouth open face instead of focusing on what she was seeing. She seemed like a crying fool when she was supposed to be a crazy, looney loose cannon.

I agree with you both. Saw it again last night and Katniss cries way too much. Its almost cringe worthy. She's supposed to be more emotional in this installment but not weepy. Still a solid flick though.

It's true to the books. She was a sobbing mess. But J Law's crying face is weird looking so it's awkward as hell.

Just saw this. I'll be short. Remember when you watched DBZ, and you was waiting for goku to go ssj and kill frieza. Cuz you already knows it's gonna happen, you just never seen it. But they power up for a whole episode.


This is the movie equivalent of that.

The movie was darker than I expected. I didn't even like the book that much but it was the best of the movie series.

shyt was boooooring. Pretty much as boring as the previous two movies except those had a third act that actually had some stuff happen in it. Here the two biggest third act events pretty much happen off-screen as we watch Katniss experience these events from an enclosed room with a bunch of other people.

You know a movie is wack when the most entertaining thing were the two Asian girls sitting next to me acting all giddy over Liam Hemsworth every single time he was on screen.
