I see a lot of NY posters complain about the Hipsters here. So have the hipsters been good or bad for NYC? NYC crime is at an all time low but so is the culture.

I hate hipsters..

Im seein nikkas walkin down the street with their jeans rolled past their ankles like fukkin bytches..

How could a man wear his pants like that??

:what:

I wish I could beat the shyt out of these clowns..

That shyt ain't ever happenin fam..

The Boogie Down is the birthplace of hiphop..

Those clown ass fakkits will never infiltrate the Bronx cause they don't wanna get stomped out like it's 1989..

:birdman:
If they really believed in NYC they would expand past the bronx. Seems like they need it more, but I get its dangerous.
That shyt is baffling to me dog..

My wife is a guidance counselor at a NYC public HS..

Everytime I go there I be lookin at these nikkas like :russ::snoop::childplease:

I hate these lil fakkits..
No fathers.

Ok. So blacks are being displaced again. The cities were abandoned because of us, but now the people who abandoned the cities have their kids flowing up and pushing blacks into far suburbs. Should blacks do more to protect their hoods or is this not about race and more about $$$$

Well it isn't just black folks, but minorities in general.

Secondly, yes, people should do more to protect their area. Remember, it doesn't become about money until gentrification or whatever has proven to work. You can throw up a few condos in those areas but the business and money won't come in until it is "safe" to do so.

Okay cool. But what would we rather see happen. Minorities move to safer suburbs or benefit money wise from gentrification? I t

This. Maybe I'm naive or something, I've never even been to NYC, but I really don't understand the hostility in this thread.

When the take over of Harlem is complete and it takes over Washington Heights, the next spot will be the South Bronx. Change is inevitable. In the 70's nobody would have though alphabet city downtown would ever become a hot spot. It was the heroin capital of NYC and you had homeless people all over. Who would have thought Do or Die Bed Stuy would become infested with drunk white girls stumbling around at 2:00 am. Did anyone ever think that Harlem, the black capital of America, blacks would become the minority ? Change is inevitable, white neighborhoods become minority majority neighborhoods. When the suburbs become too expensive the whites move back to the city and the cycle continues. Unfortunately for everyone involved hipsters fukking suck.

Fulton Street Mall and DeKalb has changed so much.

Lets be Honest, Priority #1 for the City has been to change downtown bk and make it an extension of Manhattan.

Long Island City is going to be another area thats changing, I'd hope the change would improve the quality of life instead of moving them out but I also little sympathy for the folks getting driven out.

A lot of minorities are getting rich off this gentrification shyt... But that doesn't fit into the victim narrative so no one wants to hear it

A few slaves became slave traders and got rich off of slavery, too. I guess the victim narrative of slavery makes no sense, then?

The point is that the primary effect of this gentrification in the Black population is displacement.

Meh

If you don't own the house, don't expect your rent to be affordable forever

And black people are leaving the inner city whether white people move in or not. Compare displacement in gentrifying neighborhoods and non gentrifying neighborhoods and it's more or less the same. There is a change in preference in the black community right now just like there's a change in preference in the white community.

My advice: if you don't own your own home, don't be surprised when your rent goes up. You have no inherent right to low rents so get over it

Is gentrification evil when your grandmother can sell her house in Bushwick for 900,000?

Lol no way! A lot of people are getting a payday off this, good for them... They weathered the storm and deserve it! A lot of people have been waiting 30-50 years for their neighborhood to improve

There is a certain attitude about NYC or there was at one time, and it wasn't because of high crime rates. But this need breed of transplants over the past 10-15 years having slowly been killing off that attitude. And it isn't just black neighborhoods. Look at Astoria, historically a Greek neighborhood is changing as well. I see changes from just 5 years ago. Another neighborhood I see changing soon is Ridgewood. A large Eastern European population in that neighborhood. But with all those all fashioned apartments and the L & M lines right there, that will change as well.
