Mostly bad coaching and recruiting
Butch has a well known reputation for recruiting... he went to North Carolina, and turned them into a respectable program for a small amount of time.
Shannon and Coker didn't, Coker ate real real good off Butch
Do a little research on Golden's rep as a recruiter. I think you will be surprised.
quote:
CBS Sports national recruiting analyst Tom Lemming thinks Golden can be a superstar recruiter at Miami. Last year, Lemming named Golden the top recruiter in the country for the work he did at Temple.
"The pressure was enormous for [Kirby Hocutt] to come up with a good guy," Lemming said. "Now, you have Jimbo Fisher at Florida State and Florida, who replaced Urban Meyer with a great choice in Muschamp. Miami needed a good recruiter and could have really suffered, but they hit a home run.
"With Al Golden, I believe he's as good as Nick Saban, Urban Meyer. Pete Carroll, Mack Brown and Jim Tressell, who I consider the top five recruiters in the country. He's as good as those five, he just never had the platform like he will at Miami.
i know about Golden breh, im saying that Butch is a well known recruiter.. Coker just ate off his work, and Shannon was just clueless.
I agree that Miami has put some talent into the NFL despite being wack, and that's largely attributed to Shannon not knowing how to develop players... but notice, all of those guys with the exception of Calais Campbell are at skill positions; to contend year in and year out, you have to be especially strong on both sides of the line... that's the very first thing Jimbo did when he got to Tallahassee and look at where the Noles are now
when the SEC plays out of conference teams, it's rare that their skill position players are THAT superior to the other teams'... they just dominate in the trenches and that's where games are won; Henderson and Chickillo were supposed to be those guys that anchored each side of the line, but they haven't lived up to their potential thus far; obviously they still have a long way to go, so we'll see
Every U falls off.
Shannon was actually a pretty good recruiter just not a good head coach nothing more than a glorified DB coach
