While we're on Miles,

I thought that bowl game was the worst game I've ever seen him coach, and probably the worst display of "should have won" talent/team doing absolutely nothing.

Miles never let that team get in rhythm, never called consistent plays.

I'll give it to Clemson, that was a great game, and Hopkins had a helluva game, but Miles and LSU should have come better prepared than that...

I don't think that there's a pipeline from LSU's defense to the NFL. No more than there would be at a place like Texas, OSU, Penn State, Miami, FSU, Florida, etc etc

What I was saying is that there is a very lush recruiting area from Houston over to Mobile, throughout Louisiana and into Mississippi, and it's ALL LSU.
The per capita thing that I posted was to prove the point that in nearly every town in Louisiana there's a pro prospect, at the very least a 4 or 5 star recruit. Those LSU recruiting coordinators don't have to go far to reel in the elite guys.

To what you said though, I don't believe that a player would have to go to LSU to ensure their success in the NFL, or looks from pro teams that wouldn't have considered them unless the wore purple and gold on Saturday nights.
