How is it bad promo when you got artists like Ghetto Commission, Gambino Family, Prime Suspects, Mac, and Fiend all getting videos, commercials and one page ads in magazines? That's far more than a typical indy act got. On top of that, you heard these artists on almost every No Limit release. Good marketing goes hand in hand with good promo.
P did win an award. In fact, it was one of their highest honors and it was after No Limit fell off. The looks that Face got had nothing to do with being in cohoots.
By 2000, Master P wasn't relevant enough to be getting the covers he was getting. That May 2000 Source cover could've easily gone to Big Tymers. As much as I like that 504 Boyz album, that Big Tymers album was a bigger deal. In 2001, No Limit wasn't really making noise either aside from the Universal deal, which didn't really prove to be lucrative. In 2002, he's on a Source cover with Romeo and another cover with Mystikal and Luda, there were far bigger artists than P that year as well.
none of those acts had their own ad in the source.
by album #2, fiend & mac didn't even have their own commercials anymore.
the source award that master p won was like their version of an image award for all he was doing for the community.
meanwhile scarface won lyricist of the year that night, for no reason. and he performed with benzino that night too. then they gave "the gift" 5 mics less than a year later.
master p deserved that source cover. 504 boyz album was pretty popular, and wobble wobble was BIG.
big tymers could've got a cover too. scarface didn't need to be on the cover tho.
master p robbed universal.
the '02 cover was more about romeo, and being a father/son team.
yea, master p didn't need to be on that vibe cover, but who else was really there to put on at the time? the south was low-key slowing down during that period between the new Orleans run & the crunk run.
Mystikal never did a Rap City interview when (Unpredictable) came out ( (if so pull up the interviews)
I agree with everything else, but mystical was on rap city in '98.
a wrap radio episode with big lez on the big boy morning show. I taped like half the interview, but missed the other half cuz I had to go to Sylvan for algebra. lol.
BUT the downside of it, is that it was months after rap city stopped playing "aint no limit". a video that they barely at all anyway. and that as the only video.
that album could've easily went double or triple platinum. shoot, the only reason he even got to do rap city & Apollo was because he had a name before he went to no limit. I wouldn't be surprise if it was Jive that hooked those appearances up. I didn't even know he did the Apollo until no. and yea, that song was not on east coast radio.
Mia X did an interview with Rap City on a bus during promo for Unlady Like.
sounds like the interview where they were all there.
dude mentioned that already.
