No Limit had two page ads in magazines that promoted albums that were coming out within the next 6 months and people are running with the "No Promo" narrative.

that's standard promotion.

rap-a-lot had the same thing.
universal had the same thing with their new talent initiative.
were those acts shoved down our throats too?

of course they were gonna be on magazine covers. they were by far the hottest clique in hip-hop at the time. and they got their before the magazine covers started rolling in.
nor did the mags go out of their way to try to keep no limit afloat when they began to fall off, like they do for a lot of these other acts.

and thru all of this, despite how big they were, I could still go thru a session of radio or music videos and not come across anything related to no limit.

that is NOT a case of being shoved down our throats breh.

It's not standard promo when people are in here arguing that No Limit sold what they sold "without promo". Even the lesser knowns on the label had promo.

Prime No Limit got the same amount of covers if not more covers than prime G-Unit and people complained that those mags were in G-Units pockets. No Limit didn't get there before the magazine covers started rolling in either. XXL jumped on the bandwagon not long after Ice Cream Man. Their first cover was split between Master P and Jay Z.

Magazines did go out of their way to try to keep No Limit afloat when they began to fall off:

^^^ All of these covers were after No Limit started to fall off, unless you want to somehow push the narrative that No Limit was still the hottest around in 2000-2002 (the period in which all these covers were released).

Yeah there was either payola involved, or the XXL/Source/Vibe chief editors had good connections to P (I remember MP being featured on Made Men's big single from their 98 album)

But buzz or not, MP was still a household name in the rap world. And 504 Boyz did have some hype thanks to Wobble Wobble blowing up

the argument was you claiming that they got shoved down the public's throats.
and no, their promo wasn't good either aside from the big 5 or whatever.

people only said the bolded about the XXL being in cohoots with g-unit/shady/aftermath.......which they clearly were.

master p was still an important figure in the midst of those covers. and they were few & far-between by that point.

No Limit was definitely down the public's throat. They were on a magazine cover nearly every issue. They even had their own thing with WCW.

LOL @ bad promo. Bad promo is when your brand suffers as a result. That definitely wasn't the case with No Limit. They had promo, which was definitely more than the typical indy act was getting.

One could argue that No Limit was in cohoots with The Source for the very same reasons one could argue G Unit was in cohoots with XXL.

Master P being an important figure is irrelevant. Kool Herc is an important figure, far more so than P, but he isn't making his rounds on magazine covers. Luke and Scarface are also important figures and during that period, Face was on like two covers.

bad promo is when you only get 1 video and the average consumer doesn't even know it exists. I don't want to say bad promo, because the great marketing made up for it.

if the source was in cohoots with master p, they would've won some awards and got better mic ratings. the looks they were giving to scarface.

kool herc lost relevance when 8-tracks & Betamax was still poppin. master p was still relevant & making moves during the time periods of those covers.

anyway, I been peeped that you don't understand what it means to be shoved down the public's throat.
but now we're at the point where I get tired of you, and say have I nice day. you know the drill.

How is it bad promo when you got artists like Ghetto Commission, Gambino Family, Prime Suspects, Mac, and Fiend all getting videos, commercials and one page ads in magazines? That's far more than a typical indy act got. On top of that, you heard these artists on almost every No Limit release. Good marketing goes hand in hand with good promo.

P did win an award. In fact, it was one of their highest honors and it was after No Limit fell off. The looks that Face got had nothing to do with being in cohoots.

By 2000, Master P wasn't relevant enough to be getting the covers he was getting. That May 2000 Source cover could've easily gone to Big Tymers. As much as I like that 504 Boyz album, that Big Tymers album was a bigger deal. In 2001, No Limit wasn't really making noise either aside from the Universal deal, which didn't really prove to be lucrative. In 2002, he's on a Source cover with Romeo and another cover with Mystikal and Luda, there were far bigger artists than P that year as well.

Agreed, P didn't have any type of buzz anymore, but he was already a kinda legendary figure by 2000/01 already. Scarface also got a Source cover in 2000, and he was about as big/relevant as P at that point, plus his album/singles didn't make much noise at that point

The B/C acts on No Limit (from Fiend down to Full Blooded) had zero airplay on the radio/video stations though. Like I said, stations played the stuff from the superstars P, Silkk, Snoop, maybe Mystikal or Mia X

I'm the biggest NL stan ever and have never seen the Full Blooded video for Quickest Way To Die (it did exist!)

Mia X and Mystikal got airplay. "Party Don't Stop" made its rounds. Mystikal had "The Man Right Chea" even though the label pushed "Ain't No Limit".

Silkk definitely wasn't a superstar. Star? Yes, but he was by no means a superstar. You could argue that P wasn't a superstar either.

In all fairness Mia X "Party Don't Stop" only got airplay on TV was because of Foxy. Mystikal "The man right chea" didn't even have video, but it got burn on the airwaves down south. He went to Apollo and did this song and had literally one dude in the audience going hard to the song, everybody in the crowd seem like they never heard that song before, (I can't find that footage the 1st time Mystikal went to Apollo)

"Aint No Limit" got pushed because of Mystikal being on the tank with his 1st album release, but that wasn't a big song from him. That video barely got played.

Mia X, only had 1 video for Unlady Like album (if i"m correct) and she still sold albums. These A list artist may have had a bigger budget but their promo was a C, a bit better promo than your B/C artists on the tank which I'll put at a D-minus or so.

Apollo was still hot at the time 97-2000, and not nan artist from NL (with the exception on Mystikal as I mentioned in my previous post performed on Apollo) went to Rap City, or performed at Apollo.

The only time they were on the rap city was when they all were on there, early in their career when P had them on that bus, (I'm not sure who album was out) and when they were on the 504 boys campaign.

C-Murder never did a Rap City interview when Life or Death came out? (if so pull up the interviews)

Fiend never did a Rap City interview when "There's one in Every Family" (if so pull up the interviews)

Mystikal never did a Rap City interview when (Unpredictable) came out ( (if so pull up the interviews)

I can go on.

Mac, never did one when Shell Shocked came out and that album sold Gold I wanna say with only 1 video that really didn't get played (Boss Chick)
