I'll say this, here in temporary to hire --"right to work" worker's land women definitely get paid less than men in manufacturing and unskilled labor. I worked in a powder coating department of a company who manufactures building supplies with Mexican American, Guatemalan American, El Salvadoran American, Vietnamese American women who worked harder and more efficiently than anyone. These women who were 78, 47, 34, and 28 years old and were permanent employees working 50 and 70 hrs some weeks bewildered the living sh$&+ out of me. I was 26 years old and in shape and was one of few temps man or woman who could keep up with their pace hanging metal parts on the hangers on the moving line, inspecting parts as they coat and cook in the oven, unloading and packing parts, cooking the hangers to remove the coating, and after all that putting on hazmat suits and respirators to go clean the spray room with 6 inches deep of powder everywhere with brooms and dustrags, just to change colors of powder. Most temps didn't last half the day, young grown shapely men didn't return from first break or lunch. A couple of people cussed out the 78 year old lady because they couldn't keep up with her even though she took heart medication and walks with a limp. I worked with them in record heat for over 6 months with no air conditioner,three 10 minute breaks, one twenty minute lunch, from 5 a.m. to whenever 6 or seven days a week in 100+ weather next to that oven it humid and hottt! All that for $8.50 hourly and when I moved on my brother got the same job and couldn't last two weeks but they paid him $11 hourly.
It's a political necessity.
