Another argument that Nintendo fans have been making since the Switch released. The “Switch doesn’t need to be compared to the ps5 and Xbox Series because its not part of the 9th generation, nintendo is following its own generations”

I mean, nintendo fans for years now have been arguing the FTC’s case. They have been pedestalizing nintendo for creating its own market since they went hybrid.

So in the last console generation let's say we have 175 million in total sales between the PS4 and Xbox One. The FTC is literally arguing that the company that captured 33% of the market is going to purchase a single publisher and suddenly become a danger to the company that captured the other 67% of it.

We have to protect the company that owns about 70% of the market from the company that owns about 30% of it. Meanwhile we've witnessed the company that owns the 70% of the market go to major publishers and cut deals that excludes major million selling games from specific franchises from the 30% company's platform indefinitely if not permanently.

The FTC's case is stupid. If Nintendo is inserted into the market it lowers Sony's market share and makes them appear less dominate than they actually are in the much more narrow market the FTC defined.

So the argument is the Wii U and Switch are in the same console generation ? Saying the 8th generation launches extend from 2012 to 2017 so 5 years but counting from 2017-2020 3 years isn't the same console generation?

The Switch came out closer to the PS5 and XBS consoles than it did the 8th generation. The processing power is irrelevant because Nintendo doesn't put out comparable hardware in that respect. By any rational means the Switch was the first 9th generation console.

The Super Nintendo 1990, Nintendo 64 1996, Gamecube 2001 so all 5 years apart and each considered 3 different generations.

That’s what the ftc is saying for their argument
Of these three console makers, PlayStation and Xbox compete in a high- performance segment that includes only the most technologically advanced and capable consoles. In November 2020, both Microsoft and Sony launched their current generation of consoles, the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles (collectively, “Xbox Series X|S”) and the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition consoles (collectively, “PS5”), respectively. Xbox Series X|S and PS5 consoles are the only high-performance consoles available today, and are considered to be in the ninth generation of gaming consoles. In contrast, Nintendo’s most recent console—the Nintendo Switch—is not a ninth-generation gaming console. The Nintendo Switch was released in 2017, in the latter half of the eighth generation of gaming consoles, which had begun in approximately 2013. The Nintendo Switch (“Switch”) also has lower computational performance, more in line with Microsoft’s and Sony’s eighth generation consoles

If we are actually breaking this shyt down. Each of the big 3 is trying to cultivate their market as “THE” market.

Nintendo is fun family stuff and “unique” hardware
Playstation is Big blockbuster games and multiplat licensing(console sales)
Xbox is software and services(xbox ecosystem)

There’s obviously some overlap between all 3. But if you really wanted to play semantics all 3 are in their own “market” and betting on that market to be THE future of gaming.

The problem for The FTC is, trying to break this down into individual markets only weakens their argument against the microsoft merger.

Their job is to prevent monopolies. Breaking shyt down like they did gives nintendo a monopoly. And preventing microsoft from bringing games like cod to nintendo only seves to strengthen the separation of the 2 “markets” they created.

Microsoft bringing COD to nintendo and cloud and streaming only serves to promote competition and consumer access.

So when Nintendo drops its successor to the switch in late ‘24 is it gonna count again? This shyt is bizarre.
No. Cause the shyt will have graphics and CPU from two generations ago, won’t output 4K and be targeted towards Japanese schoolchildren.

That's literally what the switch is capable of now tho :dwillhuh: . It's slightly more powerful then a PS3 & 360. Plus the new tegra chips the switch uses could upscale to 4k for their new system.

It is clear that the assets are there for a significant upgrade to the current Switch. Just the ball is in Nintendo's court.

hmmm, but wouldn't series s kind of make this invalid because it's not a high-performance machine? I somewhat get what they're saying because it's like saying in the automobile industry that Honda is not in the luxury market like BMW, Mercedes, Ferrari, Porsche, etc.

Yeah, and that shyt is trash.

So they are gonna give us PS4 graphics in 2024?

shyt is insulting.

Man people bias,

In one breath they are worried Microsoft potentially in the future dominating by buying up companies and increasing prices.
On the other hand Sony is buying companies and exclusive deals and raising up prices with no problem while being the market share leader as well as being a company that dabbles in all kind of things.

And then there is nintendo who is doing what they have been doing for years that literally only makes games and gaming consoles that go back and forth with Playstation when it comes to Marketcap but they are not a threat. As if they couldn't release a Next gen system next year that rivals the power of Series and PS5.

I guess if that happens all of a sudden they are in the console market and competition again. Because you can beat, the dev's and companies that would all of a sudden have "nintendo exclusive timed deals" would sky rocket. Not only that, that 10 year deal all of a sudden matters ALOT.
This is like saying Kia isn't an automobile maker because it doesn't have a current super high end premium vehicle :mjlol:

Just dumb.

Its chess. Nintendo can drop a Super Nintendo Switch that has PS5 graphics by the middle of 2024, and have OG Switch titles backward compatible at launch. Best thing is, it is a handheld and Nintendo NEVER fails with a handheld :myman:

Nintendo doesn't put themselves in debt and sells consoles at a loss for the sake of 4K resolution and high-end shyt that almost bankrupted Sony a couple of times. Who wouldn't mind a current gen GTA or NBA 2k that is a handheld?

How do you Know? :dahell:

Even the current Switch is damn near PS4 power graphically and does things that the PS3 cannot do.

Nintendo knows that the next upgrade has to be massive.
