I started my engineering career designing and working on bridges, but I didn’t think people needed a degree to know a ship hitting a bridge would knock it down.
They will fix it. It will be a pain, cost a lot, and take a while, but it’s fixable. People posting snippets from “The Wire”, as far as the steel and concrete needed to fix the logistics of this situation it is like when the Greek was talking to Joe after a shipment came up missing and Joe was worried, but the Greek didn’t mind and said “There’s more where that came from, there’s always more.”

Don't know too much about that bridge. I am guessing that it wasn't being maintained well and gradually became weaker over time due to inherent structural enytopy and external forces e.g weather, other minor collisions that did not leave visible damage. It's maybe similar to how repeated trauma to a bone can cause minor stress fractures then eventually a collision causes a major fracture.
