Both will be held liable. Even if the boat failed, if they can prove the maint checks and whatnot weren't up to date or lapsed they'll be on the hook too.

Last I saw, 6 people were still missing. So sad. Imagine the guilt some of the crew of that ship has.

And this is the exact reason why the Navy does not allow for high rise bridges over shipping corridors in the Norfolk/Hampton Roads region, only tunnels. Very sad.

About two years ago, something similar happened here in Rio de Janeiro when an abandoned ship crashed into the largest bridge in the country. Thank God the impact was not strong and no one was injured or killed.



Many people underestimate the power of these ships, they are tons of steel hitting structures like missiles.

Happened at 1:30 am so light vehicle traffic
2 rescued, 7 unaccounted for could be as high as 20 people or 20 vehicles

I get that but that has nothing to do with what happend unless the bridge was going to be made out of adamantium or vibrabium. That ship was massive.
