The "founder" of McDonald's was a true scumbag

Basically how IBM really didn't stop Bill Gates when they saw him coming, or how Blockbuster didn't buy Netflix when they had the chance. The McDonald's brothers saw first hand what Kroc was doing and while they didn't like it, they really didn't do anything to stop him; and when they tried, it was too late. I don't know if its underestimating someone's ambition or overestimating ones own ability to survive advancement by an adversary. I mean we can go back through history all the way up until now and there are examples that leave you questioning, "well why didn't they just stop this person or company or movement before they totally overwhelmed us."

I think a lot of is people assuming others think and act like them.

I say this all the time, but selfish people always tend to think other people are selfish, on the other hand giving people assume everyone is just as giving and often are disappointed when they find out that's not the case.

Prop Joe and Marlo for instance. Prop Joe thought he could "civilize" Marlo........where as Marlo was only playing the game to grab the throne.

This movie is a great lesson you can still get wealthy or make your dreams come true at any age. That Kroc guy was 52 when he jumped on the Mcdonalds wave.

I just finished watching The Founder (great movie btw)

Dude was just immoral and ruthless.

He ran with the fast food system the McDonald brothers came up with and told them to bounce...then rubbed their name out from history and called himself the founder

They couldn't use their own name and had to rename their restaurant (the OG McDonald's) The Big M


....one of the brothers called it after they franchised it to him.."we have a wolf in the hen house".

He opened up a McDonald's next to them to put them out of business

Stealing that franchisee's wife

Bouncing on his day 1 ride or die wife when he started getting money

Having that second wife as a stop gap while his sidepiece was with her ex...soon as she gave the go ahead he got his lawyer to inform his wife he wants to divorce her

Yep, Joe underestimated Marlo because of his youth and wanted to calm him down by bringing him into the co-op. But Joe tried to be slick by setting up the card game to get robbed by Omar, not knowing Cheese was going to betray him.

Avon saw and knew what Marlo was about and wanted to stop him early.

The people with that type of ambition are fearless and not afraid to fail, because they don't see setbacks as the end, but just an obstacle to power through. And the thing is, if you're established and you see the new blood steaming towards you a lot people and companies think the new blood is just going to stop once they catch up to them. It's like you said, people tend to think people think like them, but that new, ambitious blood is like, "naw, I'm not look at you, I'm looking through you, I'm looking past you."

Now there have been some companies and people who had the foresight to stop the competition before they really got the wind at their back and really got moving. The bad part is, those companies that stop the new blood, usually stop innovation and progress. Can you imagine the type of cars we'd be driving if oil companies didn't have such a stranglehold on the market and force the dependency on gas?

Another thing to keep in mind is the era. Young bloods you probably don't have an appreciation for how much this country has changed, but people used to be very trusting of one another because our communities were so small you couldn't get away with fukkery like this. I watched this movie where a woman just left her baby in a stroller on the sidewalk and went into a store to shop The more anonymous society gets, the more the fiends can move in silence. The McDonald's brothers weren't fools for trusting Crock, they were a product of their time.

What lessons you want to learn? The man was a sleaseball. People run scams every day. And, the real like man didn't have a happy ending. Dude was a depressed alcoholic because he knew he wasn't shyt. He used to beat his 2nd wife's ass too.
