The Flash's executive producer Andrew Kreisberg may have let some big news slip during this weekend's PaleyFest panels in Los Angeles, where he hinted at a Flashpoint adaptation.
Deadline reports that, after a fan asked if upcoming plot points on the show would delve even deeper in DC Comics lore, Kreisberg answered, “There’s a fairly big Flash storyline from the comics that were going to tackle in the future.”
It's likely Kreisberg is referring to Flashpoint, a five-issue miniseries that altered DC Comics entire lineup and timeline back in 2011. In the miniseries, Barry Allen's deceased mother is now alive, and his father never framed for her murder. Superpower factions also exist in the DC universe, keeping it in a near-constant state of war.
Meanwhile, Barry still has all of his memories from before history was changed, "and is forced to go back in time to fix things, with mixed results." The plot line ties into themes already introduced by The CW, including supervillian Reverse-Flash,
to be played by Tom Cavanagh.
However, Kreisberg and exec producer Greg Berlanti did confirm that Season 2 will introduce two important characters from the Flash comics into the television series. When asked whether Bart Allen or Wally West will appear, Berlanti said, “That’s our hope. If we’re going to be doing something like, we’d do it” in Season 2.
The Flash returns to The CW in the United States on March 17.
An Arrow and The Flash spin-off is also in the works, with Brandon Routh, Victor Garber, Wentworth Miller and Caity Lotz.
