There's a bizarre assumption that this ISN'T the status quo. People have been trying to do this. The average black person understands that they need to save money, but there has been a concentrated effort to lock us out of the kind of government programs that created the white middle class which turned into the white upperclass.

This isn't the status quo for a lot of black people. It is for some black people, and they're able to live comfortably by following these simple principles, but common sense aint common. Let's not act like a lot of black people are not materialistic, and buying stupid shyt that automatically depreciates in value, while living paycheck to paycheck, just to "flex". Even black people that get upwards mobility still poorly manage their money when they "make it". Black people getting bullshyt degrees in fields that don't generate money. Having kids out of wedlock and putting even more financial burden on yourself. These are common sense things that a lot of us still fail on, and it needs to constantly be put in the forefront of black media to counter all the negative media that targets black people.

Live below your means is a direct counter to one of the biggest issues our community is struggling with, ie consumerism.

You in the hood, why are your kids in real Js?

You just got out the projects, why is your first real car a Beamer/Benz/Audi/Lexus?

You just got a promotion, why are you upgrading your car and voiding that raise in income?

Live below your means addresses all these self destructive behaviors.

The real issue is people take umbrage when someone criticizes or challenges their behavior, and many carry a "It's my money so I do wtf I want with it" chip on their shoulders and anyone even giving off a hint of censure is getting mean mugged back.

All those things don't close the racial wealth gap and don't end RWS etc etc. but we definitely have to improve on those areas.
No fukking excuses. Especially when it comes to education and the family structure. Not everyone will have money for real estate or even for stocks.

Our kids have to be better educated to have a future. In America you have to be able to provide resources for your child for them to have a chance. Especially in this crazy world of AI, gig economy, who the knows what our economy will look like in 10 years.

There are more options/opportunities than ever for young black people to go to school and also go to college. Whether it be an HBCU or otherwise. Also many prominent people in the black community have been preaching about learning a trade/going the trade programming route for damn near 15 years. Nothing he’s saying is revolutionary or even that hard for the average breh or brehette to get into. This is just BASIC stuff he’s talking about to get you on the right path.
