My first take was that we never actually saw the real world throughout...The movie jumps from scene to scene from the very beginning (the same way he describes dreams do) and the convenient timing of characters' arrivals in the real world is just too perfect (especially the asian cat). Basically, everyone we see throughout the whole movie is just Leo's projections acting out his latest fantasy...I rewatched it and didn't think everything fit, but it was a fun theory and fit with Nolan's habit of telling you everything you need to know at the very beginning of his plots (black swan, prestige)

:aicmon: he had nothing to do with black swan.

Alfred (Michael Caine) snitched in an interview that the ending scene was real, but Nolan deliberately left it like that on purpose and will never answer it himself. Caine's reasoning is that it's real because he is NEVER in the dream world with Dicaprio, only the real world.

:pachaha:

shyt is hilarious how many people use this name when referencing caine, he'll forever be alfred. dude is a great actor too.

The movie drags on in the end which takes away from it's replay value. I was very high on this movie early on, but now I have no desire to watch it again.

There is no answer to this. The ending is left intentionally vague on purpose and the writer will not clear it up.

i loved this movie.

one of the things i don't really get is why couldn't cobb convince mal that they were in limbo the first time around? once he remembered they were in limbo, it should have been fairly easy to make mal realize that it wasn't the real world. they were doing impossible things..

plus, they got to limbo on purpose. if someone gets there "accidentally" like saito or cobb when he drowns.. they get disoriented and they forget they're dreaming. that's why saito's an old ass man who's forgotten he's in a dream and cobb only realizes he's in limbo because of something saito says.

but if you go there on purpose, like cobb and ariadne, then you get to limbo remembering you're in limbo.

with that, it should have been cake to make mal realize they were still dreaming. no need to fukk around with her totem.

the clothes are different and they have aged if u looked closer. but not saying its reality... just saying if u pay attention they're slight differences.

you DO REALIZE thou that cobb, ESPECIALLY SINCE HE'S AN ARCHITECT, can manipulate and create his OWN dreams at will, even not knowingly... if he wants this to be his reality, he can create it as such. this been one of the MAIN POINTS.. it was why he always goes back to recall his memories because he wants to "fix it"...

i'm going with mal... which is merely cobb's subconscious speaking reason to him, and say that he's so lost that he doesn't know whut is real anymore!

It's in the real world, not a dream.

I don't think that Nolan ever came out officially, but I do remember him "pretty much" saying that it was real : The point isn't supposed to be the spinning top, the point is supposed to be that Cobb turns away from it. He's back with his children (Who were played by different actors and were in fact older), so he didn't really care anymore. All he wanted was his family. That's what Nolan wanted people to "get".

I'll try to track down this interview if I can.
