1. it doesn't matter, this was cobb's reality that HE accepted. the red herring was with the conversation between miles when he said actually SEEING his children is the only reality that matters.

2. with that said, the entire FILM is all a dream... nolan himself even stated, to which if you pay really close attention, that cobb is an unreliable storyteller and so confused on whut is real and is a dream that he's lost altogether.

Either way works. The point is that Cobb accepts the ending as reality regardless. He spins the top as always to see if he's dreaming but the second he hears his kids it doesn't matter anymore and he doesn't wait to see if it falls over.

But I've always said he was dreaming if only because it would be compelling to think that Mal was right all along and is still waiting on him to wake up.

I liked the ending. I just chalked it up as some high brow winking by Nolan with him saying he had made it back in real life but is life itself all a dream...

I recall most people theorizing it wasnt a dream (supposedly you hear the top drop when it blacks to credits and someone highlighted the fact Michael Caine never appears in the dream sequences though I cant remember now). I think even one of the Nolans themsevles alluded it was Cobb's reality.

Personally, I went along with the ring theory. Makes sense to me, so I rolled with it.

It doesn't matter if it was a dream or not...The entire movie cobb struggles with what is a dream and what is real...and when he sees his kids at the end he does not care if it is a dream or real...because he finally found what makes him happy...

That is the point of the ending...it doesn't matter of happiness is real or imagined...it just matters that happiness...is:smugdraper:

one of the most overrated movies of all time.

You're being nice. One of the worst films ive ever seen with such high production value and credible talent. Action scenes were filth. For a dream world i expected a lot more in terms of crazy visuals. Outside of the twirling hotel cooridor, there really wasnt anything spectacular happening in this movie. Garbage.

But it actually does matter. Cobb was a bytch who couldnt face reality and would rather live in a coma then face the truth.
