Do yall agree
The only thing I got from this video is that we didn't appreciate Watch Dogs 1, despite it's flaws, the game actually was revolutionary and justified the big budget for the game (E3 bait and switch and all).
Didn't watch it but the downfall of AAA gaming is the obsession with more, more, more. Making every game open world with 1,000 sidequests and 100+ hours of content.
There is PLENTY of space for linear experiences than top out at 20 hours but it felt like they listened to message board fanatics who would scoff at 15 hour games. The general public in the real world doesn't have time for endless marathon adventures and is perfectly happy with a tight, linear experience.
Linear games are gonna be much cheaper to produce as well.
Also, fun is secondary to a lot of video games nowadays while nickel and diming customers is the driving force (think 2K, Madden, etc.)
Yes, out of touch, entitled suits are running these companies instead of actual gamers. There's a leadership vacuum across every aspect of society. When it comes to gaming, it is profound.Maximize profits, cut costs (by cutting corners), and let someone in a suit make all of the decisions instead of developers. That's not just gaming, it's streaming (Netflix/Amazon/etc), Hollywood films, music, etc. Everything is run by VC flunkies who are either going to produce something hyper successful or something that's such a disaster that the immediate next objective is crafting the most attractive debt package for another corporation/company to purchase.
I can at least understand the desperation and impatience at play when it comes to streaming, since the studios are bleeding money. But I just read that Hogwarts Legacy sold 22 million copies and the studio is now being tasked with making live service games, because that's what makes money. But...you just sold 22 million copies. The blueprint for more money is clear: do an expansion/DLC, re-release the game on the upcoming next gen consoles, and then start working on a sequel. But that's not good enough because...Fortnite. So everyone has to fail chasing that dream because someone in a suit said it's the only way to sustain profitability.
BG3 isn’t an example of how to do it “right”Yes, out of touch, entitled suits are running these companies instead of actual gamers. There's a leadership vacuum across every aspect of society. When it comes to gaming, it is profound.
Baldur's Gate was made by gamers who wanted to make the best possible game and it's been a massive success. But no suits could claim credit for it so they'd rather chase more GAAS garbage in the hopes of making the next Fortnite instead of empowering people to make the best games possible.

Forum narratives are based on feelings not facts.Think of how bad Phil Spencer has botched the XBox brand the last decade and his job is still safe and secure. Microsoft is a distant third behind Sony and Nintendo, with next to no exclusives, no internal studio growth and a moneypit in Gamepass.
All he's done is spent and ungodly amount of money buying studios, laying people off, not developing anything IP-wise under his watch, paid so much money giving games away on Gamepass that it's only a matter of time before their few valuable IPs wind up on Sony's system.
The guy literally doesn't have a single accomplishment as the chief of XBox and yet there he is, still running the brand with zero threat of his job.
He is the epitome of what's wrong with the gaming industry.

All these execs pro AI until it's their job being eliminatedJust have to make it shorter, we will also see how much AI helps. Been seeing them push that narrative a lot recently.
