So what are you saying then, because Europeans basically colonized every part of the globe these last 200 years. Baseball is popular in much of Latin America and the latin Caribbean Japan because of American imperialism. But even many Arabic states play soccer mainly and were never colonized. Soccer's appeal in much of the world, much like basketball...has to do with its easy availability without expensive equipment and because its fun. Not because some cacs beat it into them
But that addresses the developing nations argument- Which I agree with you, the cost is a large reason for its popularity; But far from the only reason. I mean, basketball is probably just as cheap and close to as old as soccer, but why have certain nations adopted soccer instead?
My point was geared towards bigger developed nations (non-europeans of course). The South Korea's, Japans, Canada, Australia's, countries with $$ and adequate infrastructure... Soccer is far from exclusive and sometimes not even #1
