I think the thing people are missing is the idea of "Victim of Circumstance". Anyone can be pushed to do incredible amounts of bad or evil or even things of moral ambiguity given the right circumstances.
There are hundreds of thousands of willing soldiers fighting in Afghanistan, and have fought in Iraq, all not coerced. Those poor white boys and some black/hispanics were compelled by the invisible hand of circumstance. Some can slide through it others cannot, its a law of averages.

It's not an excuse b. When people come in here & ask stupid questions about why the black community is in its current state, without acknowledging what contributed to it, its incredibly insensitive. It takes a huge jackass to hoard all the resources, create blockades for certain groups attempting to enter into his neighborhoods/schools/firms, assuring that he retains everything; effectively sealing the undesirables off into their own area outside of "paradise"..............only to peek outside the gates a few decades later and wonder why shyt has turned to hell outside
I remember when I was 12. My church pastor was like a father to me and still is. Dude's a millionaire & after he seen my brother spend most of life in jail, then end up getting killed, he wanted to pay for me to go to some private school. I went there for a day visit & shyt wasa middle school that looked like a college campus. I begged my mom not to send me back because i was felt out of place during the visit being the only black kid.......hood as hell at that........in a school full of rich azz white students
. In hindsight, my mom was foolish to listen & not force me to go because those kids were being prepared for something we weren't. The right private school that offered the right curriculum & the right tutoring sessions to get the right score on a standardized test to get into the right university that ultimately led to the right job. While we just got pushed along at the city school
I just despise people who disregard social inequality. You're right though. Blacks need to focus more on "what now". The best our generation can do is become successful and give our children the same sort of opportunity to be great.
no one is denying that there are clear and unmistakable institutional obstacles to our mobility. but, does that excuse us from treating each other with respect and being mindful of how we live? does that mean we have to reduce our community to a crude enclave of the basest desires and little else? sex, drugs, and outrageous materialism? i disagree. i think institutional racism should compel us to do the exact opposite. we need to be civilized in SPITE of the enormous challenge of being black in america. sadly, too many blacks in the "ghetto" gladly accept the stereotypical behavior. and, that makes it harder for blacks like myself, someone who wishes to be a productive member of society.

@ me not understanding perspective.....I've seen both sides of the coin. This all null & void, because with a few rare exceptions, a lot of it comes down to an individuals will power. There are some internal factors which can effect the outcome of an individual, but for the most part the blame solely lies on them.
For example, there are plenty of kids who come from affluent background, who don't wind up doing sh*t with lives despite being spoiled shytless, and countless attempt to encourage to to take life / school more seriously.
I don't see what's sohh hard about paying attention in school, studying and passing your classes.
People seems forget our heritage. We used be denied the right to read and go to school. Where has the hunger gone. We used to have a thirst for knowledge. Now, we have idiots proclaiming that higher education isn't necessary. Despite your household, I don't see what stops people from going getting good grades or not. Who's fault is that an individual didn't study for a test or go to class.
It all amounts to white privilege... the fact that just being born white, no matter if you're rich or poor, places you at a higher level than a minority in the same situation.
And white privilege transcends across so many different levels of society. It's the reason why there's a such thing as a "black movie", like, just because a movie has a black cast, it's a black movie. Movies with white casts are just... movies.
So telling fellow black people to not feel sorry for themselves, well yeah, duh... but you also gotta feel sorry that we're living in a system that does not favor us at all. We're just not respected in life. White politicians are calling Obama a ****** during speeches, and people are on here telling other black people to suck it up because they have no excuses.
