Jay-Z's entire career is based on his image as a successful business man. (previously drug dealer). He is very good at marketing this image based on what he accomplishes off the mic. The essence of his discography boils down to accomplishing something then rapping about it. I got away selling drugs and got rich, I own my own label, I'm the president of def jam, I married Beyonce, I made 100+ million selling Rocafella, now I ride in private jets and buy million dollar paintings, I have a daughter now...... You get my drift.

Nas on the other hand is the exact opposite. His accolades and acclaim stem from the music he creates. He is looked at as an "artist". When someone tries to criticize Nas they go for his image. Slave to labels, never made enough money, marital problems. He can drop Classic material but still be clowned for what goes on in his personal life.

I find it amazing how much image matters for an artist. In Jays case as long as he is making headlines, closing deals with the nets and making millions he will be applauded no matter how average his music is.

Nas on the other hand will continue to be underrated as long as people use his personal life as a reason not to check for him.

Bullcrap. About 50 rappers have the same "image". Dude has just put out a lot of hot music. Period.
