Legends of Tomorrow has begun winding down its first-season struggle against Vandal Savage, and it’s safe to say that not all of the ArrowFlash spinoff has proven a rousing success. Headed into Season 2 however, Legends will borrow writers from both DC dramas, not only to facilitate crossover, but to completely reinvent the series from atom.

Ahead of Thursday’s “Leviathan,” IGN spoke to showrunner Phil Klemmer of the second season; previously eyed to change up the team’s roster, but now set to return near of the entire original cast. That said, Season 2 will add Arrow writer Keto Shimizu and Flash scribe Grainne Godfree to “make our stories work in concert” toward a three-sided crossover, while Klemmer spoke to creating a very different series next year:

"We’re coming at it from a completely different angle. We’re determined to make every part of Season 2 feel like its own show. Episode 201 will very much be a new pilot with new good guys, new bad guys, new stakes, new dynamics, new goals. The team will basically have to find a new purpose. Once you save the world, what do you do then? It’s sort of a question of after you’ve won a Super Bowl, what do you do from there? The fact that the world was in peril sort of forced our team to fall into its own dysfunctional version of lockstep.

Season 2, they’re no longer going to be hunted by Time Masters. They’re no longer going to be burdened with having to save the world. It’s no longer going to be about saving Miranda and Jonas. The interesting thing about Season 2 is I think it’s going to have a much, much different tone because our Legends are going to have a totally different purpose. They’re actually going to have a totally different constitution. There will be new faces and new everything."

Thus far, what little we know of Season 2 will arrive with Suits star Patrick J. Adam’s finale character, said to be a beloved DC hero (who apparently wears a cape), and whose role will set up key intel for next year. For the moment, it remains unclear ifLegends will join Arrow and Flash with a full series order, or keep to the 16 episodes of its first run.
