It's exceedingly rare to throw into the upper 90s with any consistency. And it's valuable.
Armando Benitez wasn't a bad pitcher because he threw the ball straight. He was bad (if you can even call him that) because he walked batters.

For his career, batters hit .195 against Benitez.

Elite pitchers have <1 WHIPS.

If you don't have precise control (because this dude was king of wild pitches and walked far too many) then you really can kick rocks throwing straight fireballs.
