why are non-video game people watching a video game award show?

For the video games. They don’t necessarily know nor care about who creates them which is my and that other posters point.
When I say non-video game people, I’m referring to the ones that don’t pay attention to every single detail about the industry and the people who create them.
Just give them the video game trailer and keep it moving.

So again, are the same people that have an issue with the developers not being properly honored going to tune into the award shows that don’t have game trailers and celebrities like BAFTA next month?
Its like rappers and R&B artists that complain about not being nominated or awarded at the Grammys and then don’t go to the BET Awards or Soul Train awards, etc.

That's why I have always said that I find it weird that anyone takes the awards part seriously, its quite obvious they are not the priority, hell they announce more than half the winner in a minute in between trailers including best RPG and best soundtrack, its a joke and people should just be tuning in for the trailers.
