It's clear as day. The current "gun play" we live in was birthed in the crack era.

the hand skills niqqas used to lean on to resolve fights were honed on the streets of Detroit, New York, Philly and elsewhere. Niqqas don't even fight anymore....that's why we're not seeing cats come up with styles of their own and bringing it to the world stage. Cats aren't coming up like that anymore.

I grew up around the 52 and saw Mike Tyson use it in the ring. Bernard called it the Jailhouse Rock. American boxing is in the toilet because niqqas don't use their hands anymore.

Interesting theory and I think it has a lot of merit. But I'd also say seeing what happened to Muhammad Ali really turned a lot of people away from wanting to Box. I've met Riddikk Bowe a few times in my neighborhood and dude sounds like all them blows took their toll on him. Plus, Boxing is a pretty shiesty business so when you combine that with the fact that the NBA or NFL is paying you more in a quicker amount of time that'd really do a number on US Boxing.

So basically, I think what your saying is a very underrated factor in the decline but not the only factor by any means.

It's a lot of things. But there was a time where dudes reps were tied to how nice they were with their hands....and someone saw that and pulled them into the gym. We don't have that anymore in the states.

I think there is an impact there but I think the bigger issue is the fact that the best athletes grow up wanting to play football, baseball, basketball and nikkas specialize much earlier. nikkas aren't into boxing like they used to be due to the lack of exposure (all the big figths on PPV) and lack of stars.

I'll agree with this part. But I dont know if it's because of the crack era as much as it has to do with the ease of access to guns, and more importantly ego.

nikkas wanna be able to act hard, bully other, and have no chance of getting bested/embarrassed by somebody else with a better fist game.

the quick money you can get in the nfl and nba ruined boxing.

ncaa football/basketball gets kids out of the hood quicker than boxing and puts them in a nice dorm on a nice campus where they're treated like gods.

then as soon as you get drafted, you're making instant big money.

boxing don't give you that.

you have to fight bums for months until you can get a title shot and when you do, it still takes time to become a big time ppv prizefighter.

Uh....the proliferation of guns in the hood was born in that era.

You're right about the ego thing NOW. Back then, most of the cats getting killed were involved in the drug game. NOW....it's about ego.

I don't think foresight is keeping nikkas from anything. nikkas are still gangbanging and selling drugs despite all of the deaths, injuries, and prison sentences that have come from those things. I totally agree about the business and the money though.

*Occasionaly drives past Gates and Sumner and take a look at the Bed-Stuy gym and sees its closed*:to:

Dudes don't take pride in their hands anymore. I kinda blame (a smidget) dudes like us who grew up in the crack era but never really STRESSED hand skills to the youngins. Even the razor game was part of hand skills. Also dudes are just lazy and it seems to be a shooting contest out there, literally. Evrytime I come to my old hood, I hear the craziest games being played with these kids.

I frequent gyms and I mostly see my spanish brothers holding it down. :manny:

I feel you. Its retarded konwing that I kept count of all of the fist fights I had in 4th grade (21!!! :krs: ) I fought this one dude 4 days straight, beat his ass each time and realized that he wasn't going to stop until he won, so I let him beat my ass that last day. :laff:

But shyt changed man. I remember this cat Stan I used to slap box with and beat his ass. A year later, this niqqa is a young drug dealer heading out to B-more and had the biggest gun I ever saw at the time in a case which he eventually used to shoot a NJ state trooper.

It was a paradigm shift man.

21?:snoop: Wth was wrong with you? :dwillhuh:
Oh, I forgot, you're from the Stuy:lolbron:

Slapboxing......NO ONE does that anymore. Also I remember friends who went to school up until the 11th grade and "retired" to drug dealing. Bus pass one day and driving a Jetta the next.

Well why are people gangbangin and sellin drugs tho? Quick money. I think if Boxing was under one unifying organization and all the swindling was eliminated it'd help out a bit. But even with that, you gotta go a long way before your making Floyd/DLH/Pac type money.

I saw these two old drunks slap boxing on the corner a year ago, and all of the young niqqas including myself were in complete awe at these dude going at it.

They both looked polished as fukk....these dudes aren't growing up like that anymore. American hand skills have handcuffed itself to the gun.
