I'll put today's price adjusted for inflation as a comparison

FF3 in 2021 at that price 162$ (1990 release date)
Chrono trigger - 156$ (1995 release date)
Final Fantasy - 140$ (1987 release date)
Phantasy Star 4 - 183$ (1993 release date)

I am comfortable and I love you
I brought this up in the N64 thread. I was forced to skip owning a 16 bit system cause my parents couldn't afford it. Looking back those prices are INSANE, especially for the early-md 90's. No wonder my parents said no. I remember distinctly PSX games were $40-$50 and N64 games were anywhere from $50-$80
They were really taxing with those cartridges :scust:

Those squaresoft/enix/Koei games were all grossly overpriced past the usual msrp games during that time $39.99-49.99 from what I remembered as a kid.

I also remembered that my father hated buying my games from Toys R Us since their prices were comically higher than the Wiz

I remember earthbound being dumb expensive too, I think it was like 85 dollars. But you got the strat guide with it

I remember getting a toys r us paper back in the day (those christmas brochures were the shyt) and seeing Sega Saturn for 399.99 back in the day and just couldn’t believe a console could cost that much money.

Adjusted for inflation its $681.39

I don't think I owned a single RPG/JRPG during the entire 16 bit era

I was renting games back to back to back beating
Chrino Trigger/EVO/Secret of Mana etc in 10 or so days

Even crazier to think of how popular a lot of those games were and the fact that they could only hold like 3 save files at a time

This thread has been made before, but it is truth that gaming is cheap compared to historical prices and the cost for other entertainment.

but we all know this is just a stealth returnal defense thread @Gizmo_Duck

The conversation around returnals price is comparing it to other recent/modern games.

Historical game prices have absolutely nothing to do with that convo.

Do better Sony stan brehs :mjlol:
