- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 - The movie was funny and the characters are all great but the dance off at the end was just too much.. i felt at that point you have to have the villain be a threat not an afterthought. James Gunn has gotten a lot better with how to time the comedy and add drama to the script.
If you liked it or not is personal taste, but it fits the film & character perfectly. It's Quill using his music/connection with Earth to do something completely unexpected/confusing/alien to Ronan to distract as Rocket fixes the weapon. It's him using his uniqueness as a Terran to literally have his humanity save the day. It's also a payoff to the Kevin Bacon/Footloose reference as Ronan would fit the bill of someone having a stick up his butt and Quill being the Kevin Bacon/hero in the moment to save the day by dancing.
- Civil War - Great movie all around and the Russos are the best MCU directors for sure but the airport scene had too much levity. Most of the movie is pretty serious and has adult themes so why was that needed. The action of the scene was top notch but the comedy was so out of place.
I'd argue the humor is completely in place there b/c it's two sides that don't really want to fight each other but are forced in that position for various reasons (loyalty, revenge, recruited in, playing both sides, etc...). So the interactions are understandably awkward and most the humor is from that dynamic. It also holds as a contrast to the fight at the end of the film where they're legitimately trying to hurt each other and there's no jokes to be had.
I'd say where the humor gets overdone is when they try to get too quippy/ad-lib frenzy like the Iron Man sequels or Ant Man 2 (1 has a much tighter script & dialogue while still being jokey).
