Tell us the story about the Arsi Oromo versus Menelik's armies.
I'm on a crappy phone but I'll post links later but the war was from 1881-6 and they faught a bigger force with modern weapons and held their own. What the history books barely touch on is the sick mental and physical torture Menelik played on the Arsi Oromo other Oromo and southern people. He ordered mass mutilation on innocent people and enslaved on mass scale to stop resistance.

What Menelik did on this campaign cemented his name as a mega c00n and false idol. It's crazy how people don't know the real documented history.

Thanks for keepin' it hunnid

pan-Africanists revere Menelik for saving Ethiopia from European domination but his southern campaigns were quite brutal.

Read a good book called, "Understanding Contemporary Ethiopia". There's a lengthy chapter on how the Ethiopian Empire in the south and Ogaden formed itself.

I think that's Ras Makonnen sitting down if I'm not mistaken. He was made governor of Harar.

You have to read on each individual kingdom like most people don't understand their were plenty independent kingdoms who ruled outside of the sphere of Christian Ethiopia during the time. One interesting person is Aba Jiffar and the kingdom of Jimma.

Do you have stuff on Ethiopian battle tactics and strategy. I get a basic glimpse from the Battle of Adowa, but it seems to be basic flanking maneouvres.
You're completely correct it was basic flanking but the guys on the front lines were on suicide missions so they eventually over ran them in waves.

One interesting part about Adwa is the fact the northerners for the first time found a common enemy because prior to that it was a complete mess. Most of the front liners and Dzjematch(field commander) were Oromo also another fact left out.

Did Menelik have Oromo ancestry or just Haile Selassie?

Top commander in powerful Malian militia slain
Bamako - A top commander serving in one of Mali's powerful pro-government militias was murdered in the country's northeast, sources told AFP on Friday, with two suspects in custody.

Almadi Ag Lengach - the military chief of the Imghad and Allies Tuareg Self-Defence Group known by the French acronym GATIA - was slain at home in Menaka, one of its fighters told AFP.

"(Ag Lengach) was killed at home by armed men who then ran off," said GATIA member Mohamed Ag Ouleg.

A Malian security source said the assassins scaled the walls of Ag Lengach's house to evade his security detail before killing him.

Two security sources reached by AFP confirmed that two suspects were in custody.

The GATIA, which supports the central government in Bamako, signed a 2015 peace deal with state authorities and members of the country's former rebel alliance that is aimed at quelling uprisings in the north.

A 2012 rebellion by the Tuareg-led rebels was hijacked by jihadists who then seized control of key northern cities, triggering an international military intervention the following year.

Since the peace deal aimed at ending the conflict, the GATIA has been accused of multiple ceasefire violations, and in September last year US ambassador to Mali Paul Folmsbee told the government it should "sever all ties" with the group.

Militias like the GATIA operate in areas where Mali's army is absent or has a very limited presence, and patrols areas within its control. Menaka residents told AFP Ag Lengach was an important figure in the city's security apparatus.

Ag Lengach's murder comes as the country struggles to implement key elements of the peace deal including temporary regional bodies charged with organising elections when security can be assured for voters.

The interim authorities, as they are known, were put into place on March 2 in Menaka but remain absent in the restive city of Timbuktu, where armed groups have also clashed repeatedly.

Jihadists continue to roam the country's north and east, mounting attacks on civilians and the army, as well as French and UN forces still stationed in the country.

UN News - Colombian fighting displaced more than 900 families since January - UN agency
10 March 2017 – Despite a peace agreement, ongoing fighting in the Colombian Pacific Coast has displaced more than 3,500 people so far this year – many of them from the Afro-Colombian or indigenous communities, the United Nations refugee agency today announced.

The violence comes despite a peace agreement signed last Novembers between the Government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia or FARC.

“Since the signing of the peace agreement, increased violence by new armed groups has resulted in killings, forced recruitment — including of children — gender-based violence and limited access to education, water and sanitation, as well as movement restrictions and forced displacement of the civilian population,” said William Spindler, the spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Speaking to journalists in Geneva, Mr. Spindler said that the families most affected are from the Chocó, Cauca, Valle del Cauca and Nariño departments.

About 13 per cent of the 7.4 million internally displaced persons in the country are from the Afro-Colombian communities and indigenous peoples.

The UN refugee agency reiterated the need to ensure that the civilian population has access to protection and assistance.

“At the same time, any eventual returns of IDPs to their areas of origin need to take place in conditions of safety and dignity,” Mr. Spindler stressed.

I'm sure he did. All the Showan royalty are part Oromo but culturally no. They actually looked down on Oromo people and see the culture as savage. His father was Negus Melekot of Shewa and his mother was a servant/slave in his grandmother's household who is the mother of Sahle Sellassie who's grandfather to Haile Sellassie

I also feel his mother is Oromo because they never allowed her official court status and when he was locked away in Magdala by his uncle the great Muhammad Ali of Wollo came to his rescue and this was before his conversion to Christianity so I'm sure there was some connection.
