graduated yesterday

i hadn't been on campus in years since i moved away and just been doing online courses. i got a little misty walking around. so many memories came back and it finally kind of hit me that its finally over. there were times i thought i would never get back in school and get this done.

the best part was just being able to make my Mom proud. Next week my sister graduates too. All 3 of her kids will have degrees. She only has a HS diploma so this very special to her of course.

Have one exam left and then I'm done but this semester has been so tough- I'm tired and lacking the motivation to study. Every time I open the lecture notes it's like my brain switches off

My sister really wants to go to an HBCU but get this: her tuition is gonna be 27k. I’m so mad, and she wants to be a teacher. :gucci:
It's not the worse thing in the world. There's a lot of programs out there for loan forgiveness. As well as stipends for teachers. There's really a shortage and need for teachers because a lot of them are retiring and the retention rate is currently unsustainable.

The more specialized the better. I mean science and math teachers make quite a bit more money too.

7 years to get to that point and she’s def going to have to get her master’s- she wants to be an English teacher. Paying 27k at an HBCU is laughable imo, I graduated from an Ivy and didn’t even pay that much in total over four years plus loans, nevermind in a single year- it isn’t even a brand HBCU and they’re charginf that kind of tuition? Not worth it.

Ahhh I hear ya, yeah a state school would suffice. I'd only take the hbcu route if there's a fully guaranteed scholarship. Real talk though if she starts at a jc and grinds to bang out a 3.5 or above making the dean's list, then she'll be able top candidate for scholarships.

She really wants to get out of Jersey which I don't blame her for but she kind of had difficulty with certain subjects and wasn't a competitive applicant, could've gone the legacy route at my school otherwise. I'm trying to do that with my youngest sis. The good thing is her high school has some kind of program where she graduates with an Associate's from Bard, but that depends on if the school will even accept the credits to let her enter as a junior - I seriously doubt it and don't know why they even blow smoke with programs like that.
She needs to get out of that sense of entitlement and see the bigger picture. A couple years isnt the end of the world and it goes by quick. You being her older sister, you should be able to help her navigate the system(college). Meaning even if she goes to a JC, she'll have greater access to her professors and smaller classes. Those freshmore classes with 200 people ain't the business. There's also a shyt ton of opportunities and internships at JC's that never get used or applied for because people are too busy, don't know about or don't care.

Going back to the bigger picture if she cranks out a high gpa at a jc, then forget an hbcu, she could transfer anywhere like a more prestigious ivy league. There's a lot of schools that will give her a full ride as well, I'm sure there's hbcu that will too as well.

A lot of lower division classes are literally the same shyt everywhere you go. There's no need to get into debt over those courses. First two years of college, it really doesn't matter where you go.

Brehs I need some help, im looking to start a career in cyber security, ive decided to enroll into college starting in September. If you want to get into that area, do you need to do a certain degree? I know a few people do Computer Science but one of the degrees i may choose is Bsc Cyber Security Management, will that get me into the door? Or possibly Bsc Cyber Security & Foresnic Science, does it matter which one I do?
