Fantastic schools with high employment rates, a variety of neighborhoods and middle-class/upper-middle class areas with Black populations, fairly solid public education system, sports, etc.
Not a bad place to live.

A chick that I know that went to HBS said it was racist as fukk.

I dont know much about their burbs but when I was in DC for Christmas my girls brother stays in the burbs and it seemed disconnected from DC compared to say ATL where being in 20-30 minutes away from City Limits you don't feel that disconnected. I know there are other areas in the DMV that have central business districts but once again they all deal with Government, and imo not having a diverse economy is not good at all. DC seems like a city where people brag about having good jobs (all in 1 sector pretty much) while a City like ATL you have high earning people in a wide range of areas. DC is like Silicon Valley to me where if anything happens to their bread and butter industry (Govt for DC, Tech for SV) the whole city is in shambles.

I know plenty of black people in the DMV making money that is not from a government job or a government affiliated job. I work for a LLC. I don’t have a clearance and I make a good amount over the median income.

Minnesota isn't a bad place to live at all. It's just predominantly white. Im not sure why we don't get more black professionals to move here. Especially from Chicago. We got a bunch of people from Chicago here. But most come here for the benefits aka the food stamps and other assistance programs. or just to get away from the crime of Chicago. If you're married with kids, or just trying to save money and establish yourself in your career. You can come out here . One of the biggest problems is the income gap between blacks and whites. In 2015, blacks earned $30,000 while whites earned $67,000. we also have the one of the biggest unemployment gaps between blacks and whites.

Pros.
1. Shopping. Mall of America and other malls
2. Quality of Life
3. Clean- you can actually drink the water here.
4. Safe- in most areas.
5. Open enrollment for schools- your kids don't have to live in the district you live in
6. Economy- Target, best buy, United health, General Mills are just some of the fortune 500 companies here
7. Great state for schools
8. Ranked number one for the best parks. (again if you have kids)

cons
1. majority white
2. no black presence- no hbcu's. no black strip clubs. We got Auggie's but it sucks. Not a lot of soul food or jamaican spots, not a lot of black owned businesses.
3. Most expensive state for daycare
4. Long and cold winters. Im talking negative temperatures
5. Lack of r and b concerts. I love r and b. So when artists like Teedra Moses or the Internet go on tour, it's never here. WE didn't get the Xscape tour either.
6. Isolated from other cities- not like the east coast where u can go from PHilly to new york or dc.
I spent a weekend in Minneapolis I. September. I don't think I'll be going back.

If you grew up in the south, it's weird going places and not seeing any black people. It seemed like there were more east Africans than black people

I made the inverse switch. Went to UW for school and my first role was with Target out of school. Minneapolis is a really cool city. Clean, good jobs and education. The cons are like you listed, they desperately lack culture. I ended up moving to Chicago after 2 years and will probably spend my 20's here. I would consider moving back to Minneapolis to raise a family though.

what does that have to do with how blacks are doing economically? there are no black middle or upper class neighborhoods in the city of Boston
https://www.theroot.com/the-median-net-worth-of-black-bostonians-is-lower-than-1821214855

Citing a study from 2015, “The Color of Wealth,” the Boston Globe listed the median wealth of a series of Bostonians based on their racial and ethnic backgrounds. The median net worth for white households in Boston, for example, was $247,500. For Caribbean-born black people, it was $12,000.

But for blacks native to the U.S., the median net worth of an entire household was just $8.
Some readers thought it was a typo, prompting the Globe to publish another article explaining that it wasn’t.

Put another way, that means the median white household in Boston is worth nearly 31,000 times more than a black American household.

Net worth was even lower for Dominicans living in the Boston area. The median net worth of their households was $0.
