It's strange where this narrative has come from. Curry isn't a #2 (certainly not his "rightful" position at all), and neither is Durant. Curry led the regular season and the postseason as the team's leading scorer (up until Game 3 of the Finals) and main facilitator. They're pretty much a two-headed monster, where depending on the matchup, scheme and rhythm in a series - one breathes a bit more fire than the other.

The Cavs pretty much centered their defense around Curry (trapping and keeping 2-3 players in his vicinity almost all of the time) and getting the ball out of his hands, Durant just capitalized on that.
