Ah ok my fault. Now that I think about it the return Orlando got for Dwight was terrible.

The Dwight trade, Harden trade, CP3 trade, all were pretty bad for the teams they were leaving imo. The only one that wasn't was the Melo trade and thats because the Knicks are a retarded franchise.

They got Arron Afflalo, Nikola Vucevic, Moe Harkless, and a bunch of picks including the lottery pick that they used to get Elfrid Payton this year. At the time everyone shytted on Orlando but knowing what we know now they probably won the trade.

New Orleans got Eric Gordon, Al-Farouq Aminu, Chris Kaman and the Wolves unprotected pick that year, which everyone thought would be like top 5 but the Wolves ended up being better than expected so it ended up being the 10th pick. And also at the time Gordon was 22 coming off a season where he averaged 20+ points a game.

OKC got Kevin Martin, Jeremy Lamb and a bunch of picks including the one they used on Steven Adams. But to be fair to them Harden was just a 6th man when they did it and not an established star like Love.

I feel like the best return a team got for a star in the last 5-10 years was the Jazz when they essentially traded Deron for Devin Harris, Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter.

This was under rated granted they may have not picked the best players but they could have...

Either way teams aren't going to get the same value for a star...a guy like Love who can bounce lowers his value.

The timberwolves can accept any trade that they want for Love saying that the NBA should veto it because you don't like it is so shortsighted and ignorant....

Look back over history very rarely will you find a star player traded for equal value in fact it never happens to be realistic...you sell for pennies on the dollar...

But have y'all ever noticed that generally anytime a young prospect is traded for an established star the younger player seems to generally reach there potential?
This is why it has NEVER made sense to trade Love even if he makes it clear he wants to go. They're getting jack shyt in return, so why not just go for it one more time in the hopes that you don't lose your franchise player the following year?

The "better than nothing" crowd is assuming too much positive shyt on Flip's side to realize than him waking is the best thing for all involved, whereas trading him can only hurt the team more. Nothing says "we don't give a fukk" more than trading for spare parts that have no future in your organization. A Wiggins-less deal accomplishes that

The way I see it,

Best case scenario if they don't trade Love: They end their playoff drought, if they overachieve like Portland last year they win a playoff series, maybe Love decides to opt in to the final year of his contract.

Worst case scenario if they don't trade Love: They finish as the 9th-11th seed again, Love opts out and leaves, they get a lottery pick and around $20 mil extra cap room to improve their team.

This doesn't work for teams like minny....We have to overpay for average players stars don't even consider these squads...Also factor in that Rubio will be coming upon his extension talks as well...

basically unless minny improves the squad this season that is it for them for awhile.

Yeah you right it is harder for them to get stars but it's always great to have cap flexibility.

Your second part is kinda why I feel like Minnesota has nothing to lose if they hold on to him.

When you talk about a young potential allstar and another young player locked into contracts for at least 3 more seasons for someone your losing anyway I couldnt let it pass.

The T'Wolves are like Kid in House Party. At some point he knew he was gonna get his ass whupped by his dad so he said "fukk it, might as well enjoy my time til then. He became the life of the party, almost smashed Sydney, and had him a girlfriend by the end of the night. Had he not left at all or got caught at the party by his dad, none of that happens.

In this case, the team needs to come to grips with Love leaving. They clearly have. In the meantime, they can learn more about what kind of team they have and moving forward how to adjust.

Depends. Potential is subjective. I don't and Minnesota may not either see Waiters or Bennett as potential all-stars.

That $$ can just be reinvested into what they have. That way if you do strike on 2-3 players you draft, you can pay them, avoid the tax, and fill in accordingly. Instead of overpaying for Corey Brewer, draft a 2nd rounder, sign him to a 3 year deal and watch him develop.
