Always found the Tomlin hate a little crazy to me. He underachieved with those Bell, Brown and Ben teams but a lot of teams underachieve. Honestly I think it had more to do with his diva QB than anything else. Also the narrative on Cowher is always funny, he didn’t win the big game until 05 and he was the coach for how long? He had some stacked rosters as well so save the excuses.

That being said…this has become a huge topic of discussion be it wrong or not. QB play in his conference isn’t getting weaker only stronger. Next season has to be a big year for him or I can actually see a move out of the building on horizon.

Cowher went to a Super Bowl with Neil O'Donnell at QB and won playoff games (including a trip to the AFC championship game) with Tommy Maddox , Kordell Stewart and Mike Tomczak. Cowher didn't have a franchise QB until Ben was drafted in 2004.

Tomlin inherited Big Ben in his prime, won a Super Bowl immediately, went back a few years later and IMO has underachieved since. The non-losing season streak is nice, but with the talent the Steelers have had since 2007 (on both sides of the ball) it feels like they should have at least another championship to show for it.

Honestly, like most coaches dude needs another good QB. It's literally the missing ingredient to all these seasons. Needs that star signal caller.

You find that good QB and Tomlin can manage the other aspects of the game like any other great coach can on the way to contention.

A good coach puts the best personnel out there to win down-by-down and a good QB can bail out a coach's mistake whether they audible or make something happen with what's out there on the field. You need both.

I do see Penix as well, but let's be real - there's a risk (because :mjpls:) that if Penix and Tomlin fail fans are going to want to axe them both for sure.

Tomlin/Bo Nix combination I think will make a lot of good stuff happen out there and when they make mistakes won't make the fanbase go to irrational extremes.

He's an excellent coach, and would have a job immediately if he leaves Pittsburgh. If you aren't an excellent coach, you aren't going your entire career without one losing season.

However, I think people put too much emphasis on the "no season below .500" record. It's great that he hasn't had a sub .500 season, but not all of those seasons above .500 are playoff appearances or better than a wild card team. It's one of those situations where the team makes the playoffs, but is clearly towards the bottom in terms of actual contenders when the playoffs hit over recent years.

And, in regards to Brown, Bell, Big Ben, JuJu, and others he has had to deal with. It's incredible that he was able to keep as much in house as he did and deal with them, but how much of that was enabling by Tomlin?

It doesn't help that they end up being in the middle of the pack with no high draft picks when they are getting 8, 9, and 10 win seasons over recent years.

If the Steelers want to get rid of Tomlin, he'll have a job anywhere he wants, no questions asked.

the NFL is on to something by not wanting to hire black coaches. If Tomlin wasn't the coach I wouldn't have to see threads like this that just piss me the fukk off. No black coaches, no so called black people calling for them to lose their job.

How can you blame the coach for personnel when he has no say over personnel?
