Rochelle Ballantyne

At 17, Rochelle Ballantyne is one of the top chess players in the world. This Brooklyn, N.Y., native is a high school senior now, but her name is still at the top of Intermediate School 318′s list of best players. She is on the verge of becoming the first black American female to earn the title of chess master.

Ophelia DeVore (pictured), one of the first African-American models in the U.S., and the woman who pioneered the "Black Is Beautiful" Movement, is dead at 93.

Devore started modeling at a time when the field was closed to Black women and had to pass for White when she enrolled in a NYC modeling school back in the 1960s.

(I know, she looks like a Sistah to us, too!)...

DeVore founded two famous institutions, provided lessons in modeling, etiquette, poise and posture, ballet, speech and self-presentation (including grooming lessons in hair styling, applying makeup and dressing in flattering clothes) and supported the social and professional aspirations of tens of thousands illustrious students such as Diahann Carroll, Cicely Tyson, Richard Roundtree, Gail Fisher, Susan Taylor, Gil Noble and Faith Evans.

A movie should be made about here, I'm interested to know more. Good looking!
