The year 3030
I heard Nas was heated at this album.

I can't listen to it and never heard it in full because it seems fuxked up to take a man WHOLE album and replace all his beats because you think the original was trash ..then God's step son was well reviewed :mjlol:
i don't see what's fukked up about it...blend tapes/remixes/etc. been a thing. Hov captioalzied on it and dropped the accapellas for TBa and we got those "The _____ album" tapes back then.

I don't think 9th thought the OG GS was trash...just was fukking around and wanted to play w/ Nas' vocals

ya'll remember MIDI files from websites like back in the geocities days?

a lot of music fans would make their own MIDIs for popular songs, or from video games. lots of times they'd play through the browser when you loaded the site.

this garbage em beat sounds like a badly quantized MIDI file for a dre beat :lolbron:

These are some of his best beats, but his stuff is way too analog sounding.
not defending cacinem here but.. whats wrong with analog sounding? old kraftwerk was analog synths recorded onto 2 inch tape and it sounds dope to this day

as a vinyl record collector this made my heart hurt :sadbron:

i think its less the notes themselves than the synths they were put through. it sounds like one of those dinky 50 dollar casios you find in the dumpster at my apartment complex

it honestly just sounds like a literally cheap imitation of a dre beat. which makes sense given the way marshall and dre were hanging out back then

Oh well. He shouldn't have made an album with trash beats on it then.

Dangermouse did the same thing with Jay.

The ideas around music/self promotion were changing rapidly in this period. Artists and producers alike were realising they could generate interest by themselves without majors, via the internet. Mixtapes, remixes etc became a tool for viral exposure. If it was free, people were checking for it.

It's just a mixtape as far as i see it.

*side note i got the instrumental lp and remix lp somewhere. The 9th/Little Brother phenomena was in full swing at this stage.

Nas Stan’s are saying differently

Is this the rationalization for a terrible beat?
No.
Same way I'm not "Rationalizing" DMX murking certain Swizz beats.
:yeshrug:

Songs serviceable, largely saved my Nas's verses and hooks, proof that the beat doesn't have to insane
for the song to be good.
However once those same verses were put over an even better beat (like 9th's remix), shyt was on another tier.

most of his beats are bad to mid.
I could say the same for alot of artist that just chased club bangaz...guess its what you listen for...

I could say 99% of artist beats are mid to ass!

It's nothing but I did like the cross beat

Rumor has it, that originally wasn’t the beat that Em wanted to give Nas. Em had a whole different beat for him and Nas turned it down. So allegedly Em got pissed off and sent him the beat u hear now on some :troll: shyt. And I guess Nas loved it that even had Em surprised..

If true then :pachaha:
